Reparations for Rioters???

Doomerella Gets Schooled: Episode 16

Democrats are making noise every single day, but you wouldn’t know that if you just spent time on social media. Hopefully this video alters your perspective on that a bit.

The Daily Elm runs on donations. 📰 Have $9? Get a paid subscription (I get paid more if you do it through the web). ☕ Only have $5? Buy me a coffee. 👕 Have $25? (omg) Get some merch! (I can only do this with support from viewers like you (I’ve always wanted to say that, I hope PBS doesn’t have it copyrighted…) And don’t forget to join my voting group, Election Day is Every Tuesday, for all your election needs!

Dems mentioned:

Rep Julie Johnson TX-32
Rep Grace Meng NY-06
Rep Christian Menefee TX-18
Rep LaMonica McIver NJ-10

*UPDATE:

It happened. I film these videos about a week in advance, and usually that’s fine, but this weekend, shit hit the fan. A hunger and labor strike began inside the detention center on Friday morning. Andy Kim and Rob Mendendez conducted another oversight visit on Saturday. But by Sunday the facility stopped allowing oversight visits and insists the hunger strike is a figment of our imaginations. The story is rapidly changing, so please search for the newest updates!

Just goes to show that the story I covered was the beginning of the story, and not the end, and sadly it took the hunger strike for all eyes to be on Delaney Hall, cause they absolutely weren’t when I filmed this post.

Transcript:

A: It was unanimous!

D: Hi, nice to see you too, what was?

A: Julie Johnson’s VOTE Act

D: THE SAVE ACT?????

A: NO, VOTE, like V O T E. It stands for Voter Outreach Transparent Elections Act and would prevent what happened in texas. Here, I’ll just let her explain

D: Oh that makes sense. If you make people jump through hoops to know where to vote, they won’t vote again, but if you make it easy, they probably will.

A: Exactly!

D: And it was unanimous?

A: In the committee, yeah, now it’s headed to the house floor.

D: oh, well that’s not as big a deal then.

A: yeah it is, republicans control the committees so if something is unanimous then it has a very good chance of passing the house. But unfortunately, many bills introduced by our Dems do not have that chance.

D: Like what now?

A: Grace Meng introduced a bill last year, Menstrual Equity for All Act, to end period poverty.

D: Period what?

A: Yeah, I didn’t know the term either. Luckily it was just Period Poverty Awareness week, so she got a chance to talk about it.

D: Oh, yeah that makes sense. I never thought that that could be something that could affect people.

A: It’s really easy not to think about what don’t affect us.

D: I try to not do that!

A: There’s so many things that don’t cross our mind, we can’t be responsible for not knowing all of them. And you know this one now!

D: So, can the bill pass?

A: Um….if we talk about it. It’s likely gonna die in committee otherwise.

D: UGH

A: I know, but that’s why posts like this matter so much. And that’s the same reason Dems are raising the alarm about the new slush fund.

D: the what???

A: the DOJ is setting up a reperation fund.

D: not for the desendents of those who were enslaved, I assume….

A: Uh…no, for the Jan 6 Rioters

D: THE WHO?????

A: here, one of our newest Dems, Christian Menefee explained on the house floor

D: Holy fucking shit. I had no idea.

A: I know you didn’t. I mean most Dems are talking about it right now but you’re not following them are you.

D: I am, I do, I mean…I try, sometimes.

A: Not now.

D: it’s overwhelming!

A: I know, but it doesn’t go away if you don’t look at it. And everyone’s thinking like you so none of it is getting attention. LaMonica McIver is another example

D: but she did go viral for getting arrested at delaney hall last year.

A: yeah funny, she goes viral for that, but no one knows that last week, exactly a year after that event, she went back, and reported that nothing is better.

D: Huh, you’d expect she wouldn’t go back after what happened. I mean she got her photo op right?

A: Doomerella, you don’t ACTUALLY think that’s what it was about, do you???

D: I mean Democrats don’t do anything, so….yeah

A: do you still believe that?

D: depends on the day, but after seeing these stories, maybe not today.

A: you know, I wish sometimes you would just learn a lesson and it would stick

D: but then you couldn’t whine to me about how dems are actually doing the work

A: Yeah, I guess that’s one positive.

A: And that’s today’s Doomerella gets schooled. Dems ARE doing the work and we need to support and amplify them when they do. Don’t forget to engage with this content cause that’s the absolute best way to make sure it gets seen by more people. And remember our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
