Hypothetical question: would the jungle system work if we also had preferential voting?

Ideally, I feel like the more candidates are running, the better; and we need better ways to dilute the power of this two-party system.

yeah, jungle primary with rank choice works thats what alaska has

I agree about the jungle primary and would honestly prefer the old way better. I’m also not that worried either. There’s still a long time until the primary and we haven’t seen who Newsom will support. However, if we do get a Republican governor it will be bad, but I don’t think we will be doomed. As long as the state legislature has a supermajority in both chambers (like it currently does) bills can be veto proof. There’s also the opportunity of recalling the governor. So for now it’s a wait and see.

Ariella, I live in California and I completely agree with you about the jungle primaries. I wish more people understood this issue. I'm not that worried yet, though, because candidates always drop out when they can't raise enough money. Let's see what happens before we panic.
