An Interview with SC State Rep Courtney Waters
We cannot win in 2028 without the South.
Which means we also can’t win in 2028 without focusing on Southern elections NOW.
Gerrymandering has led to severe voter despair and confusion in Southern states.
When I saw that South Carolina Dems had managed to end the gerrymandering conversation for the 2026 election, I HAD to talk to anyone who was involved in fighting back against this Republican power grab.
And I lucked out with the best person I possibly could have.
State Rep Courtney Waters not only walked me through exactly how they got the necessary voter turnout, but also how to fight back in other states and how to keep having hope even when everything tells you not to.
This is one of those interviews that I will be quoting for a very long time. And it only increased my resolve to make sure I’m talking to as many Southern Dem leaders as possible.
The South is our beacon of hope and that’s the message we need to keep spreading.
