Some Jumbled Up Thoughts About Yesterday
And in case it isn't super clear, fuck ICE.
I don’t know where to start with this. I have so many thoughts and they’re all kind of jumbled up, cause, how can they not be? A woman was murdered in broad daylight by the federal government.
So I think I’m just gonna write, and we’ll see where we land? Sound good?
Her name was Renee Nicole Good. She was a 37 year old wife and a mother and I have seen so much conflicting information that that’s all I’m fully comfortable saying about her.
Over the next few weeks and months we will learn her entire life story, we will learn so much that we’ll feel like she was our friend, mother, child or sister too. But right now we are still in that limbo period. That period where misinformation mixes with reality, where she’s the face of a movement, but we don’t fully know what it looks like yet.
There’s going to be a before and after, there has to be. We have to make sure there is. That this is the Kent State of 2026, that’s the one I keep thinking of. It has to be. This has to be the turning point, the moment that people who felt like “Well what can I do? Why bother?” get up off their asses and do SOMETHING. ANYTHING! Anything to help us take back our country.
It needs to be a moment that puts the midterms into piercing clarity, the importance of not just getting a majority in both bodies of congress, but in state legislatures across the country.
A moment to peacefully protest louder and more widespread than ever before. To contact your elected officials at all levels of government, especially Republicans and say “a mother is a dead, what are you gonna do about it?”
This can’t be like other moments. This can’t be just another thing that happened that gets swept away by something new.
Renee Nicole Good. We can’t stop saying her name. We can’t stop saying she was a mother. And we can’t let their narrative win. We have video footage, that must mean something, we have to make sure it means something!
And it’s not gonna be easy. The more we focus on the murder of Renee Nicole Good, the more Trump will try to get us to focus on something else, make another situation worse so we just have to accept this new reality. But we can’t let it work. We can’t move on.
Except that in some ways we’ll have to, because for tangible change we need to win elections, and there are people we need to vote with us who don’t know what happened in Minneapolis yesterday. They go to work and come home so they can put food on their table, and they don’t watch the news and only use social media to watch a cute dog video at the end of the day.
And they don’t know. And we need that person to feel like life will get better for them if Dems are in power in the country, in their state, in their county, in their town or city. So the world can’t stop for Renee Nicole Good. It should, the entire world should be pause right now, but it can’t. Because unless ICE and the administration being this truly and unequivocally evil stops them from putting food on their table, this story will barley graze their periphery.
This is basically stream of consciousness cause I don’t know enough to say more. Everything is new, and we don’t have enough concrete information. There’s a reason the Star Tribune has updated their story six times since yesterday, and I expect even more.
We don’t yet know the chant that will permeate our bones till November. We don’t have a grasp on the plan. We protest and we scream her name and “fuck ICE” like a prayer, but it’s on us to make that prayer a reality. By the end of this week we should have more information, and concrete story to tell so she’s more than just a name, a plan of action to make sure everyone knows her name and her story before November.
I don’t know what this is, I don’t know if anyone will find it remotely helpful or comforting, help remove them from doomerism or make it worse, you tell me, I guess.

Kent State came to mind for me, as well.
According to the Mpls Star-Tribune, the shooter has been identified: https://www.startribune.com/ice-agent-who-fatally-shot-woman-in-minneapolis-is-identified/601560214
Regarding Kent State, I saw a comment on Instagram from a retired reservist who said he watched the video of Renee's death, saw how completely unprofessional was the ICE behavior, and thought how he and his cohort had been required to study Kent State in detail to avoid any such thing occuring.
