because it isn’t. republicans are known for doing this. they are guilty so they have to drag one or two democrats into their lies. they do it all the time. then what to democrats? they punish the innocent democrat because they don’t want to seem partisan. sound about right?
I’m ready to ban cisgender men from politics altogether… they just cannot seem to keep their junk in their pants or their hands off women they consider attractive. And that lack of self control does not make for a good leader.
I was all in for Swalwell until this happened. I don’t like Porter but I will vote for her—she’s a fighter and she won’t put up with the regime’s BS—and she’s not a billionaire.
I’m interested in Xavier Becerra but I don’t think he’s polling as well as porter, the question is— how can we as constituents get some of these lower polling dems to drop their candidacy and not split the vote to the point two GOP are in the run off?
I also like Becerra but he doesn’t have the numbers. It looks like it’s between Steyer and Porter. We could start contacting the candidates to pressure them to drop out of the race, but not sure if this would actually help. Hoping some of them will drop out after the debate.
Thank you Myra! I appreciate you taking the time to share this information with us. Right now I’m leaning toward Porter but want to see how the candidates do in the debate. Maybe one of them will pleasantly surprise us.
I went to high school with Tom Steyer. I was in class with him and, at one point, he "dated" one of my best friends and roommate. (Full disclosure, for a few months I dated his best friend.) For people that say, well, that was decades ago, yes, it was, but our high school, Phillips Exeter Academy holds formal class reunions every five years and both Tom and I attended many of these - meaning I have some personal longitudinal tracking of the man. I was also class correspondent for five years and activities coordinator for one of our reunions and arranged for Tom to participate in a panel discussion of the state of education. He bailed at the last minute to watch his son play a soccer game at Harvard and Tom's billionaire former tennis team partner (we have quite a few billionaire alumni) stepped in to advocate for charter schools in his stead. Tom is a sixty-nine year old "progressive billionaire" (beware the linking of two opposite terms like "blue-collar billionaire") who made his fortune in private equity, and he has done some "good things" to try to get out progressive college-age voters, but he can be an inept politicuan - his well-funded solar power initiative in Arizona - a state with ample solar to provide year round power to the entire state - failed at the ballot box AND Republicans made Tom look anti-Native American - which as far as I know, he is not. (I was living in Arizona at the time and working in my small way to turn a "red" state "purple", then "blue" so I watched this happen personally.) I am a die hard liberal and I would NEVER vote for a man to run the world's 4th largest economy whose only previous elected office was Exeter Senior Class President. (He completely lost me when he had the temerity to run for US President in 2020.) Lots of people I personally know, however, are cheering him on, but count me out. That said, if elected he probably won't be "worse" than Shriver spouse movie star cigar smoker Republican Arnold Schwartzenegger was and I can pretty much guarantee Tom won't impregnate the live-in housekeeper. And, of course Californians should vote for him over ANY Republican candidate should he emerge as a candidate finalist for Governor. Make your choice, Californians. I'm glad it is not mine.
We scream “believe the women” one minute, and then “oh no, I’m gonna have to see hard evidence on this.” All allegations should be taken seriously and investigated. If charges are warranted, proceed with legal recourse. This sucks either way, innocent or guilty…but here we are
For those of us dealing with the shit show in MN, I need the back story here. What did I miss? Because I sure as hell don’t want another Al Franken situation.
This story reminds me of what happened to Daniel Biss a few weeks ago, and what happened to Biden in 2020. It feels like a Republican/Russian/political opponent dirty trick. California MUST elect a Democratic governor or the presidency will almost certainly be lost for Democrats. I find the timing very suspicious; just as Swalwell becomes the frontrunner these accusations surface. And Katie Porter looks pretty egregious for repeating them. I don't know either of the people repeating the accusations made by other people, "evidence" that is by definition hearsay (not admissible in court). Maybe they've been misled? I think it's interesting that at least some of the accusers say they signed NDAs, while Swalwell and his staff deny they ever use NDAs. Beware the dirty tricks of those who want to destroy our democracy!
This reminds me of what happened to Al Franken, a true progressive and defender of women’s rights. I’m sorry, but I disagree with your absolutist purity test for Democrats. Until I see more hard evidence of serious wrongdoing (not the “crossing the line” comedy of Franken that may have been in poor taste to some but it essentially harmed no one—and we lost a progressive candidate in Congress, targeted by GOP with what they knew would trigger Democrats while they continued to rape the country figuratively), my vote is still with Swalwell.
Exactly - Franken was one of the best. He did a stupid, childish thing, but it did not warrant his removal from the Senate. THAT was a much larger and more egregious stupid thing - led by Kirsten Gillibrand - leading to the loss of a real fighter for democracy. Franken publicly apologized and requested a public hearing - putting himself on the line for his actions. He made no excuses. He took responsibility. Yet he was railroaded out by Democrats. Idiotic Democrats.
I am not minimizing Swalwell’s actions - it is inexcusable- but I am flabbergasted by Democrats’ urgency to throw him out while Republicans’ sexism and misogyny is on a cosmic scale.

I'm pulling for you, California!

Maybe this is because I'm in Michigan but I've heard absolutely nothing about this despite following Mrs. Frazzled and many other Cali folks online.

Wait. How did i miss this? Grr

Al Franken could have gotten ahead of it, given that he knew it was out there.
I would hold off on that vote if I were you.
