Daily Dems Doing the Work, Making Noise and Fighting Back Day 220
Bipartisanship is not a dirty word
I’m only gonna say this once. When a Dem is talking about Trump and says anything about bipartisanship, that Dem is not talking about Dems compromising. I feel like this should be self explanatory, but evidentially it’s not.
Repping the Rep: Don Norcross (NJ-01)
Visited Peter J. McGuire’s grave site, which he hopes will soon be a National Historic Landmark, thanks to his legislation. If that name doesn’t sound familiar, don’t worry, it wasn’t to me either. McGuire is actually the father of Labor Day. And Rep Norcross even wrote an article about him in The Hill in honor of it.
I hope his legislation passes, sounds like an important figure to get more recognition than he’s getting.

Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12)
Stepped out of the Early Childhood Education Subcommittee Hearing to tell us all about the “hypo-damn-critical” arguments her Republican colleagues were daring to make.
The hearing was titled “Foundations First: Reclaiming Reading and Math through Proven Instruction.” I could not even begin to tell you what that means, and frankly, I doubt anyone in that hearing could either. What I do know is that while Republicans literally said that if $95,000 isn’t enough for a school district to properly teach math and reading, nothing is, Rep Adams said:
Of course we know that a lot of students who are left behind are those who actually start off behind.
Wow.
And:
So many people are saying the schools have failed the children, well we have failed the schools, and we need to correct that.
You can watch the full hearing below
Rep Jim McGovern (MA-02)
Asked Rep James Comer a simple yes or no, does he support the bipartisan Massie-Khanna bill to force the release of the Epstein files. Not only did Rep Comer refuse to answer, he then accused Rep McGovern of politicization.
Apparently yes or no questions are now anti-Republican?

Sen Andy Kim (NJ)
Posted a new episode of his series “Real Talk” with three things happening in the Senate this week.
The CR is baaack (my addition), but Trump has already been shutting down the government.
The Senate Finance Committee has a hearing where RFK Jr. will testify for the first time since he gutted the CDC.
The Senate Banking Committee has a hearing for Trump’s pick to fill the empty Federal Reserve seat.
I love this series. I mean I would have learned about these as they happened, but it’s SO much better to know in advance.
DNC (The Blue Print)
Posted a clip for Zohran Mamdani’s interview on the “I’ve Had It” podcast.
He’s the Dem candidate for the New York Mayoral race, obviously the DNC is supporting them, but they don’t typically endorse candidates at this level, they just support them, which they are.
I’m tired of this argument to just continue scapegoating the DNC.

And finally,
Rep Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08)
Announced that thanks to all Dems, a few Republicans voting against, and many Republicans not in chambers, the Republican attempt to censure Rep LaMonica McIver (NJ-10) is dead.
Jeffries did that. He made sure all Dems in DC were present, and got a few Republicans on board too.
He does stuff like this a lot, but somehow, it doesn’t matter how many times, most of the internet decides he doesn’t deserve any credit for it.
My favorite line of this is:
There is no justification, no rationale, no basis whatsoever to try to punish Congresswoman McIver who was just doing her job when she showed up to a detention center in Newark

So those are just some of today’s fighters.
If you made it to the end of this post, comment 🧮 (abacus) because, Rep Adams is right, those who are behind typically were never given the tools to start ahead
And if you watched or read any of the stories, comment⚕️(the health staff), because I’m very curious how this hearing with RFK Jr. is gonna go.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!

🧮⚕️Good on Jeffries for getting the House Democrats in lock-step! That's not easy. And I love Jim McGovern. He's just tells it like it is and is not afraid to say what needs saying.
🧮⚕ The DNC-Jeffries-Schumer-bashing happens frequently here on Substack. As a non-American, I suspect some people here on Substack probably wished Democrats got into ACTUAL physical brawls with the Republicans and treated them like the enemy which Newt Gingrich encouraged Republicans to do back in 90's. McGovern could've hit Comer with a chair and some people here would go wild.
