We're NOT Doomed: Tue March 24, 2026
To tide you over till Saturday...
If you didn’t know, Saturday is No Kings Day ❌👑!
There are over THREE THOUSAND events planned all over the WORLD!
Every few days I see someone from out of the US wonder why no one in the US is protesting.
And that just isn’t true.
The thing is, the US is HUGE. Everyone cannot possibly congregate in one central location, so there are smaller protests across the country.
And, that’s not a bad thing. The way our government works, having smaller events in red areas has more of a chance of changing hearts and minds than any single massive protest could ever have.
But that means, unless it’s a massive day of protest all around the world, like Saturday will be — from the outside, it looks like no one is protesting at all.
Please keep that in mind when you’re considering if you should call out Americans for not protesting.
And, as we get numbers for this Saturday, remember those numbers don’t reflect everyone involved.
They don’t reflect the people who can’t stand and protest so they drove by, while honking, a handful of times instead.
Or the people who made signs for their friends to take but can’t leave the house.
They don’t reflect the people who are sick or disabled who can only make noise online this time.
Or the people who have to work on a Saturday or maybe they don’t have childcare.
It only reflects the people who are standing or sitting the ground in person holding signs and making noise.
Remember that as you see the participation numbers. They will always be bigger than what any statistic is able to capture.
And, if you can’t be there, that doesn’t mean your part doesn’t matter. You are still protesting if you’re driving by. You are still protesting if you only make signs. You are still protesting if you’re posting online. And if you can’t do those things, we are protesting for you. We are protesting because you can’t. And that’s okay too.
It’s hard to remember how big this movement is when this country is bigger. When so many people seem resigned to our fate. But it IS big, and we ARE fighting back.
There are so many things that come from a protest day like Saturday, from showing companies and institutions that we, in fact, have more power than the current government, and maybe bowing down is not the answer, to making the people protesting feel energized and remind all of us that we are in community and there are more of us than there are of them.
However you can protest, no matter why you think it matters, you are an important part of this democratic movement. There will be a lot of bots trying to convince you otherwise, don’t let them.
Show up on Saturday, in any way you are able!
Because showing up is using your voice, and, well, that voice is your superpower, but only if you use it!
Nevada
Thu, Feb 26 - This is what happens with a Dem Secretary of State. Nevada has updated their election rules.
Like in many states, it is now harder to contest someone else’s voter registration. And it is up to the County Clerk to determine validity.
Also every voter will receive a paper version of their ballot, and that is that goes into the ballot slot. So, while it’s filled out electronically, you get to make sure it’s accurate before submitting it. Which is such a big deal, especially now.
And ballots cannot be rejected just for being received three days after the election if they were postmarked or the barcode shows that they were mailed on election day or before.
While the Federal government is doing their damnedest to make it harder to vote, Nevada is trying to make it easier, and I love that so much. That certainly makes me feel less Doomed.
DC
Fri, March 6 - Ed Martin currently works in the Justice Department, but his behavior towards Georgetown Law last year may lead to disbarment — if the DC Bar succeeds in their arguments of misconduct.
The DC Bar argues that when he used his power as a member of the Federal government to coerce Georgetown Law into removing diversity, equity and inclusion from their curriculum, and punishing them when they didn’t, he violated the first and fifth amendments:
Mr. Martin’s conduct as set forth in Count I violated his oath of office as an attorney admitted to the Bar of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, in which he swore to “support the Constitution of the United States of America,” and therefore is grounds for discipline.
These charges were only filed a few weeks ago, so we don’t yet know how this is going to shake out. As of right now, he’s still in good standing with the Missouri Bar, but that could very well change.
Regardless, as always, it makes me feel less Doomed to see people and organizations fighting back using every tool they have.
New Jersey
Tue, March 10 - Governor Mikie Sherrill is already making a name for herself. During her budget address to the state legislature, Governor Sherrill announced a plan to protect New Jerseyans from the medicaid cuts in the Big Ugly Bill.
Any major company that has employees on Medicaid — rather than paying for their private health insurance, would be fined under this proposal.
For every employee not on the company plan, any company with more than 50 employees would be charged $725 per year for every employee who is on Medicaid.
We of course want Medicare For All, but right now, with the cuts that Trump is trying to make and already has made, this is the best way to get the most people the care they need and save the state money as well, around $145 million, according to the Governor.
She argued:
Instead of asking taxpayers to foot that bill, this budget looks to large employers. It asks any company with 50 or more employees on Medicaid — companies like Amazon and Walmart — to cover their workers, which they should do anyway, or pay a fine.
If you’re on the fence, Massachusetts already has a similar program, and business leaders hate it. That last one is definitely a plus.
Until we have Medicare for All, companies should be paying for health insurance for ALL their employees. It’s just that simple.
Seeing her make a proposal, like this, this early into her governorship makes me feel less Doomed.
We all have to find creative ways to protect and support our fellow Americans and anything that makes healthcare more accessible is an important one.
So those are some of the reasons We’re NOT Doomed. I hope they help you feel like it’s worth it to continue fighting back, cause we are winning and making an impact every single day!
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!

Thank you for all the work you put into this and all your missives! It is a HUGE help to be reminded and informed of all the ways that people are working to preserve our democracy. You are one of those heroes!
