We're NOT Doomed: Wed March 18, 2026
We must all do what we can
Please stop falling for fear mongering.
If something sounds horrible and there’s no source, 8 times out of 10 it’s false or incredibly misleading.
“Passed” rarely means “was signed into law” or even “passed a chamber” ; oftentimes when someone posts that something “passed” they mean a bill that was introduced has passed through the first subcommittee, or maybe there was a vote to begin debate.
But the average person doesn’t know the weeds of politics, so they hear “passed” and they panic.
That goes the same for “introduced.” The amount of anti trans bills introduced a year is enormous and they happen across the country in all states, including the bluest ones.
But only one member has to introduce a bill. That doesn’t mean it’s going to even get a markup/hearing in a subcommittee, let alone a committee. That means one single person is truly evil.
But, when you hear “X horrific bill was introduced,” well, even in California, that feels scary. We are inundated with so much bad news all the time, it’s really easy to just let it eat us alive.
So many people on social media, and traditional news, for that matter, want us to feel hopeless. And it’s not even necessarily cause they are an op, oftentimes it’s just because they want the views, and fearmongering gets better views than hope.
And they’re not wrong. I can go days without a post that hits, but the second I say “I feel hopeless” usually in relation to the fact that my views are shit, those posts get attention.
The point is, be careful. I know it’s easy to just blindly trust what we see on social media. Scrolling takes no effort, finding a source does — ESPECIALLY with how much of a disaster Google is now.
But we really need to return to media literacy in a big way.
If there isn’t a source, 8x out of 10, it’s not true, or very misrepresented if it is.
If there is a source, read the source, at least a few paragraphs, the titles are often clickbait and misleading.
Read the comments before panicking yourself. Chances are, someone else has already done the work and either there will be a source there, or more than one person questioning the validity of the thing.
Things are BAD right now, but no matter how bad they actually are, people posting on social media have to make them seem worse.
Be cautious of what you believe, be wary when you all of a sudden, see multiple people saying exactly the same thing, and just use your intuition. If something feels off, it probably is.
And I promise you, I will never fearmonger on purpose. I will continue to only post about bad things if I can also give you a call to action, or, at least, do my best, I am only human, afterall.
People want you to be confused, Republicans especially. But it is easier to be media literate than you think, I promise.
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Fri, March 6 - Local Minneapolis organizations like Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Show Up for Eat Street, Immigrant Law Center and South Minneapolis Families Fund along with Valor Media the Save America Movement and Unite for Veterans joined together to create the Abolish ICE acoustic tribute concert for Renee Good and Alex Pretti.
Dropkick Murphys headlined the show with the other slots being filled by local bands Wild Colonial Bhoys, DJ Jacques, Kiss the Tiger, Sophie Hiroko, Chutes, Laamar, Obi Original and The Shackletons.
Dropkick Murphys were playing a concert in St Paul that night, and they have been activists for their entire career, so it was an easy yes when they were asked to perform. Frontman Ken Casey said:
We are so proud of how Minnesota stood up and met this moment and we are so sad for the community and for the Pretti and Good families for what they’ve gone through, so it is an honor to come down and be able to play some music for the people and let them know we stand in solidarity with them.
According to Kris Goldsmith’s article on the event:
At first, the plan was to have them pull up on a flatbed, play acoustically in a sort of guerrilla/surprise show, and drive off to make it to their sold-out show in time. But that would require a permit… and if we needed a permit anyway, why not build something bigger?
And so a full show was born. They planned it in a few weeks and thousands showed up.
Even though the concert itself was free, the fundraiser was a huge success, between the livestream and in person donations, they have so far raised over $46,000 for the local organizations mentioned above.
I don’t know about you, but this whole thing make me feels so much less Doomed.
You have a unique way to fight against fascism. Everyone does. No matter what your skill set is, there is something you can offer that no one else can. And this story is a great example of that.
Mableton, Georgia
Wed, March 11 - In a unanimous decision, the Mableton City Council voted in favor of blocking new ICE facilities for the next two years.
Mayor Michael Owen explained:
Our reason for this moratorium is so that we can take some time specifically to look at what the challenges are, and to put a pause and make sure that we don’t rezone something that potentially could have us in the crosshairs of the federal government if the federal government decides they are going to come into Mableton and force a detention center down our throat. It’s unfortunate, and we would see how that would turn out.
Brianne Perkins, chief of staff for State Rep Terry Alexis Cummings, was a bit less careful with her words:
At its core, the resolution affirms a simple principle, every person deserves to be treated with dignity and our community should stand on the side of justice and human rights.
It’s also worth noting that this is a new city, it’s only been independent for less than three years. It makes me feel less Doomed to see that they are not waiting to be more established to do the right thing.
National
Fri, March 13 - The DOJ has reached a tentitive settlement with LiveNation and TicketMaster over their monopoly, and while several Republican-led states joined the settlement, more than 30 states will continue their lawsuit.
We expected the DOJ to drop this. This government likes monopolies and wants to make them stronger, so it’s almost shocking they stayed with the case as long as they did.
But 32 states, plus DC don’t care what the DOJ wants, they’re fighting back anyway. And for the record, only 24 states have Dem AGs, so, Republican AGs are still working on this.
Knowing this case is continuing and our AGs aren’t giving up makes me feel less Doomed.
So those are today’s reasons we’re not Doomed. I hope they inspire you to keep fighting, cause we need you in this fight for a long time!
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
