Thank you for bringing up the importance of funding the DNC. People's understanding of what it does, and what it should do are often not linked to reality. Then there's the people that demand they do something before they'll donate.
As an adult I know that I'm not going to agree with every decision they make. I have some concerns right now about some of their decisions. That said, I committed to monthly donation and I'm not going to change. The organization as a whole is still doing good work that needs $$ - upping the amount they send to the states, with red states getting more; and their voter registration drive and listening initiative should be valued.
I was shocked to read about Ludlow MA in your newsletter today. I lived in Ludlow until I was in my early 20's, so I am quite familiar with this story and the town itself. Ludlow is a small conservative, predominantly white town of approx 23,000 people. It was a Mill town that drew lots of European immigrants, especially from Poland & Portugal, to work in the textile factories in the late 1800's - mid 1900s. Future generations of those same European immigrants still reside in the town today and now run the town's select governing boards in town. Unfortunately - in bright blue MA, the town of Ludlow is bright red dot who voted for Trump all three times. In addition to the trans issue in school that you discussed, Ludlow was also in the news around the same time for school board members pushing for school book bans. When the ban didn't work, the school board member who was championing the ban, and much of the MAGA BS, immediately resigned from the board. I actually know this fool from high school, which was many, many years ago. 😳
Oh, BTW - the student involved was in middle school, not high school. I believe he was 11 or 12 years old max.
During all this school controversy with the LGBTQ+ student and book ban push, the Republican party also sent funds to help finance the campaign of two MAGA conservative candidates running for the Ludlow's school board. Both lost their elections nonetheless. If I am not mistaken, I believe FOX "news" jumped into this LGBTQ+ story at the time, causing hostile public school meetings with parents, counter protests about book bans, and total chaos in the school community especially.
