We're NOT Doomed: Jan 27, 2026
"One person can start a change."
It is the one year anniversary of the first Daily Dems Doing the Work, Making Noise And Fighting Back. Though the series has changed, it’s amazing that I’ve been doing this for a year.
I hope it’s made a difference. I mean, it certainly has for me. A year ago, I couldn’t name all the Dems in Congress. And I had no idea where they stood on various issues.
Now, I not only could tell you what the main issue is for most, if not all Dems in Congress, I can tell you their state, and probably their district too, without looking it up. I spend so much time looking at their accounts, reading their press releases and watching their videos that I have a pretty good idea of who they are as politicians and civil servants.
I understand how much goes into being an elected official and the compromises that have to take place; And it involved a lot more nuance than most are willing to admit.
And, sadly, I still seem to be the only one doing this. It’s been a year and I’m still the only one introducing people to lesser known Dems, unless they do something that goes viral.
I’m glad I found my niche, that I found a way to make an impact that stays true to me and helps people rethink their biases.
I remember when I started this series, I was so sure it had an expiration date within the year, that things would get so bad that I couldn’t do this long term.
But that didn’t happen. Things are worse, but this series, and it’s current iteration, Doomerella Gets Schooled, are more important than ever.
It’s a reminder of the power of one. No one taught me how to do this, or told me it was needed. I saw a gap and I filled it. I didn’t wait for permission, I didn’t wait for a leader, I just did it.
You also have that power. I am a disabled person who mostly works from my bed and yet, I found a way to do this, to make this difference. I worked within my boundaries and I created something new.
And you don’t have to create something new, there are so many incredible organizations and activists running with incredible ideas already that you don’t have to recreate the wheel—but it’s nice to know you can. Every single one of you reading this can.
We all have something unique to bring to this movement. I decided to change the doomerism narrative, by sharing what’s going right and who’s responsible, but there’s a narrative you can change too, or maybe just one to amplify.
If this last year has taught me anything, it’s that, my voice is my superpower, I just had to learn how to use it.
Lehigh County, Pennsylvania
Tue, Jan 20 - Controller, Mark Pinsley is going after ICE in the most creative way, he’s evicting them.
ICE has been occupying several buildings in the county for the past three years, and paying rent on none of them.
He said:
I sent a memo to the county administration advising them what is happening, and I asked them to send two messages to Kristi Noem. You’re evicted. Pack your masks, tear gas, pepper balls and hit the road. You owe Lehigh County $115,000 in back rent. Since Congress gave you a $5 billion appropriation. You could probably take it out in petty cash. But we will like it by the end of the week.
On the website, there is a waste fraud and abuse tipline, I’m gonna bet this was submitted by someone
This is his job, and unlike the federal government, he’s actually doing it.
I would also like to point out, he’s running for PA-07, currently represented (or not) by Republican Ryan MacKenzie. So, if you like this, spread the word and get him to the general election!
The creativity exhibited by so many elected officials always reminds me We’re NOT Doomed!
National
Thu, Jan 22 - Mattel unveiled the newest Barbie in their Inspiring Women collection. They chose the “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” Opal Lee, who spent so much of her life trying to make Juneteenth and national holiday, finally succeeding in 2021. The doll was designed by queer Filipino designed Carlyle Nuera.
In a statement about the partnership, Opal Lee said:
It has been a joy to partner with Barbie on my Inspiring Women doll. I hope my story encourages the next generation to never underestimate the power of one voice. As I often say, one person can start a change, and that can change the world.
If you know anything about me, you know this is my motto for everything. It’s the power of one. Each and every one of us can make a difference in our own unique way. You are never helpless, there is ALWAYS something you can do to help fight back.
And creating this Barbie in this moment in a statement. Mattel could probably do more, but this isn’t nothing, it’s far from it.
And that just shows, We’re NOT Doomed!
Shakopee, Minnesota
Fri, Jan 23 - ICE was planning on leasing property, but after a massive amount of community pushback, the real estate developer backed out.
Dem State Rep. Brad Tabke announced it on social media:
There is no longer going to be a detention center built here in Shakopee.
Thank you so much to everyone who made calls, who emailed, who got in contact with OPUS and let them know that this is not a project we want to have here in our community.
They heard you, they listened, and there is not a contract to be moving forward with ICE.
It’s just another reminder that the power lies with us. Even in Minnesota, where ICE is trying to do the most damage possible, they’re not winning. They’re losing the messaging and we can’t forget that.
As long as we keep fighting back, We’re NOT Doomed. We WILL take back this country and create the progress so desperately needed.
So again, We’re NOT Doomed. I repeat it so much because I want it to be your mantra so you can keep fighting and not give up.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!

You’re an inspiration for all of us. The power of one voice is truly amazing. You came up with a positive idea and ran with it. So glad I found you.
Your voice has frequently given me hope in a sea of doom.
