We're NOT Doomed: Feb 25, 2026
The Constitution Still Matters
David Hogg left the DNC, and he did leave, of his own accord, because he wanted to endorse and raise money in primaries and that fully goes against the goals of Ken Martin’s DNC.
I don’t care about what you think did or didn’t happen in the past, this current DNC does not get involved in primaries.
Period.
You will not find Ken Martin saying anything about any particular candidate until it’s a Democrat vs a Republican in the general election, or before — if only one Dem is running. (and they won’t get involved if it’s a jungle primary and two Democrats at all)
I keep seeing people blaming the DNC for what’s happening in the Texas Senate race or the Maine Senate race or the California Governor’s race.
They are not involved, other than to facilitate events for the state party to make decisions, like Ken Martin being at the CADEM convention last weekend.
The goal of the primary is for registered Democratic voters to have a say over who our candidates are (unless you’re in a state with a jungle primary, fuck jungle primaries). It’s a chance for everyone — who votes — to have their voice heard.
It is not the time when the DNC tells you who to vote for. That only starts when it’s a choice between a Dem and not a Dem. They’re gonna tell you to vote for the Dem.
At this moment, their focus is on local elections. last week, Ken Martin was in Maine, but not because of the Senate race. He was there to help support and knock doors for Scott Harriman, who just won the House District 94 special election yesterday.
They are also focusing on talking to people where they are. During the first week of February, he was in Kansas City, both in Missouri and Kansas to meet with Mayor Quinton Lucas, Rep Sharice Davids, local Dem leaders, union members and farmers, because, as he keeps saying, we don’t want the first time someone hears from the Democratic party to be when we need their vote.
Soon he’ll be spending weeks at a time in Wisconsin, cause we need that Supreme Court seat.
He might be in Texas soon, but it’s either for a different election or after the primary, when the DNC will begin to put their full weight behind whoever gets the nomination, be it Jasmine Crockett or James Talarico. But they are not getting involved in the primary.
I don’t know why this rumor persists, but it does and it has to stop. Using the DNC as a scapegoat doesn’t help anyone. If your favorite candidate doesn’t win the primary it’s because they didn’t have the votes….sorry.
Minnesota
Wed, Feb 4 - Teacher’s union, Education Minnesota, as well has Duluth and Fridley Public Schools have sued DHS over the change in policy that allows ICE agents to patrol schools and other “sensitive locations” for people they think (or pretend) are here illegally.
Superintendent of Duluth Public Schools, John Magas said:
The removal of long-standing protections around schools has had immediate and real consequences for our learning community. We’ve seen increased anxiety among students, disruptions to attendance, and families questioning whether school remains a safe and predictable place for their children. Schools function best when families trust that education can happen without fear, and that stability has been undermined.
In some school districts a third of students stopped coming to school out of fear. This isn’t an environment anyone can learn in.
This week is national Public Schools Week and on Monday the plaintiffs were back in federal court seeking an emergency order. I will let you know once we have an update on that.
I feel less Doomed when thinking about all the incredible people, institutions and organizations that won’t just give up while those in their care continue to be unsafe. These lawsuits are vital to stopping the situation we’re in.
New York
Thu, Feb 19 - A five judge panel on the state appellate court has reversed the stay that prevented the New York redistricting commission from redrawing the congressional map to create an 11th District that represents the 30% of the population that is Black and Latino.
This lawsuit was filed late last year and the first ruling by State Supreme Court Justice Jeffrey Pearlman stated that the redistricting could move forward, but Republicans secured a stay days later.
Now, it looks like, the redistricting will hold. NY-11 Rep Nicole Malliotakis tried to take it to the US Supreme Court before the stay was reversed, but, filing for candidates in New York has now started, so, it’s unlikely this decision will be changed again.
Not to mention, there was no dissent, which would make it significantly harder for Republicans to try to appeal.
This seat was the last red seat in NYC. This redistricting will not make the seat blue, but it will make it a tossup. And, if the elections since 2024 are any indication, we have a very good chance of flipping it.
Even though changing the redistricting rules in New York takes time, we may still get another seat thanks to this lawsuit. And that reminds me that We’re NOT Doomed.
Kentucky
Thu, Feb 19 - Kentucky Supreme Court unanimously ruled against creating a permanent funding apparatus for Charter schools, reversing HB9, which was signed into law last year.
Justice Michelle Keller wrote the opinion for the court saying that it doesn’t matter where the justices stand personally, the state constitution is clear:
With due respect for the General Assembly’s extensive efforts to broaden educational opportunity, and mindful of the practical consequences of today’s decision, we do not criticize those policy judgments nor substitute judicial discretion for legislative choice, yet the Constitution binds us to a fixed standard.
She goes on to remind the legislators that the voters literally rebuked this, and they can’t go against the voters:
By a sweeping state-wide rejection in all 120 counties, Kentucky voters steeled the constitutional backbone of educational funding as strictly reserved for the common-school system.
I say this all the time, but the constitution does still matter, both at the state level and the federal level, and we can’t lose sight of that, and that makes me feel less Doomed.
So, I hope you feel better having heard these stories of our fight in the judiciary. We have not lost the courts, no matter what you read on social media.
And remember, our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!

Gosh Arielle. Please tell us what you really think. Just teasing. It is this kind of writing that is so very important in this time. We need the candidates that speak to the people where they are and the DNC policy reflects that. Keep it up. Thanks so much.
