Three Wins Today: Sept 24, 2025
Voting really is the foundation for everything.
Imagine what would happen if the attention the Dems are giving to Mamdani was given to at least 10 other races, just as local around the country. Zohran Mamdani has literally reached the cap of fundraising NYC allows for mayoral races.
Does he still need support, sure, but there are SO many elections across the country that need it more. Last night we lost the Mobile Alabama Mayoral race by only 1,391 votes, which was a less than 2% margin. In 2021, the Republican incumbent received 62% of the vote with two challengers. His closest opponent only received 22%. So this is a massive over performance.
But if people who’s only focus is Zohran Mamdani had focused on this election as well (notice how I said as well, not instead), we probably would have won.
My point is Mamdani is running in one race out of the thousands that are happening through the rest of the year. Take the energy you have for Mamdani and spread it around. Find some races we really need to hold, like Pennsylvania judges, or races we have a good change of flipping, like several Republican seats in the VA legislature, or even VA Governor.
Or, read to what Daniel Nichanian writes for Bolts about important local elections and help out there. Actually, you can just follow the DNC
(
And for the record, this is what Kamala was talking about on Rachel Maddow. Not that you should stop supporting Mamdani, but that there are so many other races that need just as much, if not more attention.
I get that Mamdani is being seen as a weather vane, of sorts, but that can’t mean it’s the only race that deserves attention.
We’re over performing in almost every election, but a lot of those over performances that we’re not winning, could have been wins if they were given just a little more TLC.
And these three wins are what happens when the right people get into office. It makes a difference.
North Carolina
Fri, Sept 12 - Governor Josh Stein announced that the COVID vaccine will be available without a prescription. Heath and Human Services Sec, Dev Sanavi said:
Requiring an office visit to obtain a prescription to receive the COVID-19 vaccine is an administrative barrier for patients, providers, and pharmacies. accinations against seasonal respiratory viruses, including flu, RSV, and COVID are especially important and the right choice for those at higher risk of severe viral respiratory disease.
I know this is happening all over the country, but it’s different in North Carolina. Even with a near Republican super majority that has done everything in their power to take away Gov Stein’s power to run the state, he was still able to do this. Obviously he can’t do everything Blue states can, but he’d doing his best with the limited tools he was given. I don’t know about you, but I see that as a massive win.
California
Thurs, Sept 11 - SB 497, which will further protect trans people’s healthcare data in the state, is on it’s way to Gov Gavin Newsom’s desk. It focuses on sharing data with law enforcement. It expands trans shield laws, requires law enforcement to have a warrant to access healthcare data, and makes it known that if you give law enforcement any of this data, that is a misdemeanor.
The bill author, State Sen Scott Weiner said:
The Trump Administration is trying to make transgender people the scapegoats for their fascist takeover, and California must stand up to protect them. President Trump has made it clear he is willing to violate laws and norms to target transgender people, and that he will not stop until their existence has been erased from public life. California must do everything in our power to protect the transgender community, and I’m confident that the Governor will continue his longstanding leadership on trans issues.
If you don’t know the name Scott Wiener, no matter what state you’re in, you absolutely should. He’s one of the stars of progressive CA politics, and he authors many bills that focus on protecting trans and queer lives.
And if you’re worried because of Newsom, first off, this doesn’t have to do with sports or “fairness” so it’s very unlikely he won’t sign it. But if, for some really asinine reason he chose not to, a supermajority already voted for it in both the Assembly and Senate: The Assembly voted 56-14, and the Senate 30-10. So barring some change in California law, it’s safe to say “will” rather than “would.”
We will know for sure which option happens by Oct 13, when Newsom either signs the bill into law or vetos it.
Oregon
Fri, Sept 12 - The State House Dems have created an abortion working group. After HR1 - the Big Ugly Bill was signed into law, they brainstormed how best they can protect Oregonians.
Working group member Andrea Valderarma told Capital Chronicle:
This work group will focus on determining what, if any, policy changes are necessary to create a sustainable funding mechanism and accountability framework that ensures Planned Parenthood can keep its doors open in Oregon and that Oregonians can maintain access to their healthcare.
Looking forward to seeing what they come up with!
So those are today’s wins. I hope they inspire you to get out and create wins yourself!
All three of these wins are very much election based. Without these incredible Democrats in office, they wouldn’t be happening.
Your vote and your voice is your superpower, but only when you use them!

Just gave to VA candidates through Oath (every dollar goes directly to the candidates). Thank you for reminding me!
Ariella, first of all, happy new year! Second, Postcards to Swing States, which is part of the Progressive Turnout Project, is sponsoring postcards to Pennsylvania voters. They're to be mailed on October 15th so there isn't much time, but I thought I'd mention it. I think Vote Forward is also doing something about that election. I am doing the postcards.
