Three Wins Today: Sept 16, 2025
Are you registered to vote?
Today is Voter Registration Day! It’s a day dedicated to getting people registered. A day to register for the first time, and reregister if you’ve been purged (which can happen in any state.)
If you haven’t checked your voter registration in the last month, now is the perfect day to do so (and every single month going forward.) The best way to do so is go type into Google: your state and “check my voter registration.” You want the .gov option, that will have the most accurate info.
And then post about it. Tell people to join you in checking theirs.
And if you’re not registered to vote, today is a great day to do that too. You can do so at iwillvote.com, which is run by the Democrats, you can also check your voter registration, but, as I said, the most accurate info will be on your state’s website.
If you’re thinking “my vote doesn’t matter,” yes it does. “But I live in a Red State,” I don’t care.
My favorite example is Rolla Missouri. Phelps County went for Trump by 42%. But in April, they had their municipal election. The city council FLIPPED. The city went from getting rid of fluoride to indefinitely pausing that endeavor, basically overnight. They were literally so anti-abortion that they were looking into becoming a Sanctuary City FOR THE UNBORN.
No Democrat in Phelps County would ever think their vote mattered, but it did. It mattered so much it changed the entire makeup of the city government.
So yes, you do need to register to vote, and yes you do need to vote in EVERY SINGLE election no matter how small, and convince your friends and family to do the same.
If this is possible in Rolla Missouri, it’s possible literally everywhere.
And if you’re in a blue state or district and you think your vote doesn’t matter because it will go your way anyway. May I present Baton Rouge, LA.
After Nov 4, Dems stopped talking about elections, they didn’t want to think about what just happened. So when December 7 rolled around, the Louisiana general elections, no one was paying attention. And Republican Sid Edwards defeated Incumbent Dem Sharon Weston Broome. Between her and the other Dem in the primary, she should have won with her eyes closed, but over half of the Dems who voted in the primary stayed home.
Sid Edwards success was an even darker day for me than Trumps’ win, because it should have NEVER been possible.
So yes, you blue dots, whether you’re in blue or red states, your vote matters too.
I hope, if you weren’t registered, you will be by the end of the day. Take advantage of this day that exists just for you to register.
On that note, here’s your wins.

Nationwide
Sun, Sept 7 - The Creative Arts Emmys honored the Corporation for Public Broadcasting with the Governor’s Award. Being on CBS, the Emmys broadcast wasn’t supposed to get political, but the Creative Arts Emmys certainly did. Television academy chair, Chris Abrego said:
The Governors Award recognizes and celebrates extraordinary contributions that transcend television and transform society. For more than half a century, CPB has been a steadfast champion of storytelling that informs, educates and unites us and ensures public media remains a vital space where diverse voices are heard and communities are served. With this award, we honor CPB’s enduring legacy and its extraordinary impact on the cultural and civic life of our nation.
It feels hopeful to see an organization like the Television Academy standing up right now.
Henry Louis Gates presented the award to Patricia de Stacy Harrison, who served as president and CEO since 2005, making her the longest serving in its history.
I don’t want to share a big long quote, cause I want you to watch for yourself, but I will share this one tiny quote that Louis Gates said when talking about the history of the attempts to destroy the CPB in the past:
Where have you gone, Fred Rodgers, when we needed you most?
And that, sums up just about everything.
Utah
YESTERDAY - The Utah Supreme Court ruled against further delay of the creation of new congressional maps. Republicans yet again tried to push it, yet again arguing against the district court’s process, which has been their play twice already. It didn’t work with Judge Dianna Gibson, about her own ruling, so they ran it up the ladder, and sure enough the USC felt exactly the same way:
Their arguments focus largely on the district court’s remedial process, but they have not appealed from the order putting that process in place. Instead, they challenge the district court’s denial of their motion to stay the court’s injunction on the Congressional Map. However, their complaints about the remedial process do not demonstrate that the court’s denial of the stay order is legally wrong or that the court otherwise abused its discretion. Without that, they have not shown why they should receive the extraordinary relief they seek here.
As of right now, the first draft of the new maps must be completed by Nov 10. Utah Republicans are hoping that if they appeal enough times, it will get so late that the current maps will have to stay in place for 2026. But it doesn’t seem like any judge in Utah is remotely impressed with the continued circumventing of the 2018 ballot measure (Prop 4), which is when this redraw was supposed to take place to begin with.
Executive director for Better Boundaries, an org created to get rid of the UT gerrrymandering, Elizabeth Rasmussen said:
Today's Utah Supreme Court decision reinforces the Third District Court ruling last month. Further delay would be in direct opposition to the principles of the Utah Constitution. We're thrilled this process will move forward on the previously agreed-upon timeline, putting fair congressional maps in place by November 10th.
The Republicans are gonna keep trying to delay it, but if things keep going on the same trajectory as they are now, we’re seeing the first draft of new maps by Nov 10.
Also, it’s worth noting that Better Boundaries was created in 2017 to help pass Prop 4. If you see an injustice and don’t see anyone working to change it, get a group together and start yourself. We have all the power in the world.
Also if you want a bit more background about what Republicans are trying to do, this Salt Lake Tribune article is great.
Minnesota
Fri, Sept 5 - Students at at least 20 schools in MN walked out of class at 12:00pm to protest school shootings and demand an assault weapons ban. One college student joined the walkout from University of MN Duluth:
Students are dying, and there's no left, there's no right, there's no blue, there's no red. No matter how few or how many or how frequently it happens, I think we all collectively believe that one is too many, one death is too many.
And that sentiment spanned everyone Minnesota Public Radio spoke to. I find hope in the fact that these kids still feel like it’s possible for something like gun violence to be decried by everyone. That we collectively believe anything anymore. They are the ones that still have to grow up in this world and they’re still finding some faith in our shared humanity, and I think that’s beautiful.
And again, a group of kids just decided they were gonna do something, and they did. We all have the power to change the world.
We have the power. We are the leaders were want to follow, and today’s a great day to start, if you haven’t already. How can YOU help make Voter Registration Day successful?
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!

Many of our local elections in my area are won or lost by just a handful of votes. People's votes really do count!!!
