Three Wins Today: Oct 30, 2025
Voting is overwhelming, but it's so important
Let’s talk voting. This isn’t gonna be a long intro, but hopefully it’s informative all the same.
Voting is overwhelming. It’s overwhelming to figure out where to vote and when, it’s overwhelming to figure out how to vote on each race and ballot measure. It’s overwhelming to make sure you’re filling out your ballot (or envelope) properly.
I think acknowledging that is a good thing. It’s okay if you’re overwhelmed, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it. That just means you might need a bit of additional guidance.
So here goes.
ballotready.com is one place to go to find out your voting information.
voteearlyday.org is specifically for finding out where and how you can vote early.
iwillvote.com is the DNC’s website for all things voting.
bluevoterguide.org has endorsements from organizations you might support for most races across the country. This is especially helpful for ballot measures and non partisan races.
Voterider.org has information and resources about voter ID laws across the country.
rideshare2vote.com can help get you to the polls if you can’t get there yourself.
866-OUR-VOTE is the number to call if you see or experience ANYTHING iffy, be in voter intimidation or a poll worker who says something political.
If you vote by mail, it’s too late to mail the ballot in, so either use a drop box or turn it in to a polling place, and track your ballot, every state has a way to do this. If something is wrong with your ballot, you can fix it (called curing), but you have to know it needs to be fixed to be able to do so. Some states have ballot curing after the election, but for others, curing will close on Nov 4.
So please, don’t sit out this election because you’re overwhelmed. Breathe, take it one step at a time and help us save Democracy, cause, collectively, we absolutely can.

Thu, Oct 16 - A three judge panel on the Chancery Court has ruled that the lawsuit against the state for their abortion ban can continue. The state tried to argue that because they amended the law this year to say that there are exceptions when medically necessary, the lawsuit would be dismissed. However, the 2025 version of the law explicitly says that there are no mental health exceptions:
Consequently, while the 2025 Amendment “may” permit medically necessary abortion care for some pregnant women with one of the medical diagnoses listed…This exclusion appears to restate, in part, the mental health exclusion set forth in the 2023 version of the statute, which subsection remains in the 2025 Amendment.
The final nail in the coffin of this attempt to dismiss was that the law itself is just so badly written:
The Court has found that Plaintiffs’ claims are not rendered moot by the 2025 Amendment, which adds a circular definition of a key term and “explains nothing,” and where the defects alleged by the Plaintiffs in their second amended complaint are not clearly cured by that amendment.
I have read “explains nothing” several times and I laugh every time. It just feels so colloquial, but accurate.
So, the case moves forward, and I will keep you posted if we have any updates.
UK
Mon, Oct 20 - Dispatches is a British show, on Channel 4, with segments about various parts of British life. It seems kind of similar to CBS Sunday Morning or 60 Minutes. One segment on AI this month was different than before, but it wasn’t apparent till the end of the segment. The host was not human, she was an AI:
AI is going to touch everybody’s lives in the next few years. And for some, it will take their jobs. Call centre workers? Customer service agents? Maybe even TV presenters like me. Because I’m not real. In a British TV first, I’m an AI presenter.
Some of you might have guessed: I don’t exist, I wasn’t on location reporting this story. My image and voice were generated using AI.
But don’t worry, this isn’t Channel 4’s way of firing their hosts, this was done with the intention of scaring us and making us think.
Louisa Compton, Head of News and Current Affairs, Specialist Factual and Sport at Channel 4 (what a job title) said:
The use of an AI presenter is not something we will be making a habit of at Channel 4 - instead our focus in news and current affairs is on premium, fact checked, duly impartial and trusted journalism – something AI is not capable of doing. But this stunt does serve as a useful reminder of just how disruptive AI has the potential to be - and how easy it is to hoodwink audiences with content they have no way of verifying.
As scary as this little experiment is, especially given all the companies that do not have Channel 4’s integrity, it’s great that we are seeing it from a friendly face that wouldn’t lie first, before it becomes common place, so we can hopefully suss it out in the future. As Compton said, AI will never be able to create fact checked, impartial and trusted journalism. That’s something only humans can do. And hopefully we’ll be able to continue to for a very long time.
Chicago, Illinois
Tue, Oct 21 - Cardinal Blase J. Cupich posted a video supporting the immigrant community.
Not only does he speak in support of the community no matter what law enforcement says is legal or illegal:
Our parishes and schools will not turn away those who seek comfort, and we will not be silent when dignity is denied in the enforcement of the law. It is essential that we respect the dignity of every human being.
But he also speaks directly to the immigrant communty:
Most of you have been here for years. You have worked hard. You have raised families. You have contributed to this nation. You have earned our respect. As the Archbishop of Chicago, I will insist that you be treated with dignity. Americans should not forget that we all come from immigrant families.
There is real power behind him saying these words. especially right now, especially in Chicago.
And the most important section is, of course, that he will work against law enforcement to give dignity to those who deserve it the most.
I really have been so impressed with the Catholic Church. Never though I’d say that in my life, but here we are.
So those are today’s wins, I hope they inspire you to continue fighting back!
And I’m sorry I’ve been so sporadic with posting, I’m having some chronic illness flareups I’m still trying to regulate.
Doomerella will be back soon, I promise!

Ariella very helpful wins ! Love that people are willing to drive folks. I mailed my ballot last week and our gov office has already let me know by email that it arrived. Mailing it saved me having to drive to find a drop box. I think most people monitor their mailboxes. I put it in just before the mail person arrived. Also tinkering with the yellow envelope destroys the votes for all parties. Only drawback would be if you have signs in your yard!
Thank you for the inspiration! I just sent a text to our condominium association group chat with information on Tuesday’s elections (local) and an offer to drive anyone to the polling place as needed (I cast my ballot last week.) I have another reminder text scheduled for family and friends to go out tomorrow. 🗳️
Thanks for all you do 💙
Take good care of yourself 💙
