Three Wins Today: June 9, 2025
I’m not including this as one of the wins because he could still change his mind, but today TN-07 congressman Mark Green announced that after he votes for the awful BBB again, he will be resigning from office! Who’s gonna run? If we have someone solid enough, R +20 isn’t out of reach anymore…
Well, I mean, it is a win, for now anyway, so you got a bonus!
Here are today’s three wins!
Today - The new president of the DC bar will be Diane Seltzer, who beat out Pam Bondi’s brother, Brad Bondi, with about 90% of the vote. When she won, Seltzer said
I trusted that our members would elect a president-elect who they know will be fierce for them and hear them with respect to the issues that matter [to them]…we have a Bar full of lawyers who care about making sure their leadership reflects their values, which are maintaining the rule of law, being able to practice law without fear of retaliation, and having a leader who is experienced and has the qualifications to be in that position.
She will begin her term in July. Mazel tov to her, and, well, all of us.
Today - Hundreds of NIH staff have signed a letter called the Bethesda Declaration standing up for science and the health and safety of the American people. This is incredibly brave and will probably get them fired. So thank you to these amazing scientists for doing everything they possibly can to protect us.
The letter begins:
For staff across the National Institutes of Health (NIH), we dissent to Administration policies that undermine the NIH mission, waste public resources, and harm the health of Americans and people across the globe. Keeping NIH at the forefront of biomedical research requires our stalwart commitment to continuous improvement. But the life-and-death nature of our work demands that changes be thoughtful and vetted. We are compelled to speak up when our leadership prioritizes political momentum over human safety and faithful stewardship of public resources.
Today - LAUSD Superintendent, Alberto Carvalho, gave a press conference where he said they will do everything in their power to protect all students, staff, teachers and parents from ICE.
Not on our watch shall people trample over children’s rights. Not on our watch shall people be intimidated. Not on our watch shall we succumb to unreasonable pressures for us to do that which is not human or humane or humanitarian
That’s just a small snippet of the full press conference, where he stands side by side with the school board, who are united against ICE. Please take the time to watch the entire video, it’s worth your time.
And massive thank you to Fox 11 for airing the entire speech. They may have Fox in their name, but they are one of the most reputable local news stations in LA.
These may be wins, but today, all three of these stories are showing our fighters. Lawyers fighting for what’s right. NIH scientists literally risking everything, and a superintendent who will not let his students and faculty be at risk.
Some people are bowing down, but so many others are standing up and fighting back, and we must celebrate them and their incredible bravery.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!

Fantastic wins, so hopeful and inspiring! Thanks so much to these true patriots, and thank YOU, Ariella, for making sure we hear about them! 🇺🇸
Very nice!!! Thank you!! Feels like we are coming together w thoughtfulness etc
