Hi, can the X birth certificate ruling be explained? Does it mean that newborns with visible hermaphroditic features (I'm sorry I don't know the correct terminology) can/will/must be labeled X, or does it concern reissued admin documents later in life upon request? Thanks!

From what I read it sounds like it’s about trans and non binary people being allowed to change their birth certificates, but I think it would apply to intersex as well. The plantifs are nonbinary so that’s the main piece of it, I believe

Hi, I believe the correct term for your example is 'intersex,' fyi. :-) The ruling, which brings Puerto Rico in with several states which include the option, allows for situations of both birth and court orders later in life. (ANY change to a birth certificate requires a court order.) I'm not finding anything that will "force" the parent(s) of intersex newborns, so I don't know how that will shake out. I hope this helps. :-)

Me too! Very inspiring. Another new, young, democratic leader.
