Three Wins Today, July 31, 2025
Please spread the word about Trump’s Texas Takeover. It is not getting nearly as much play as it needs to to stop it. North Carolina gerrymandered three Democrats out of their seats before last election, and that was the amount of seats we lost the house by. If they get five more seats, that will probably be the difference between Speaker Hakeem Jeffries and Speaker Mike Johnson, again. If you know about it, don’t assume everyone you know does, and make sure to tell them!
Anyway, here are three wins to get you motivated!
If you prefer to watch, the video episode is at the end of this post
Tues, July 22 - At the Iowa City Community School Board meeting, they voted unanimously to reinstate their gender identity anti-discrimination policy. While introducing this item, member Shawn Eyestone said:
As we’ve continued to get guidence, and some updated information, we now know it’s not illegal to have those in the policy, so the one thing we’ll just have to be clear with families and staff on is it won’t necessarily be supported by Iowa code, but I think it’s an important piece for our school community and our LGBTQ+ community to make sure we have that noted in our policy language.
This is why school board elections are SO important
You can listen to the full meeting below (it’s not very long)
And shout out to The Gazette for their reporting!
Thurs, July 24 - SCOTUS stayed the 8th Circuit Court decision that would stop voters from suing over unfair maps. This case was brought specifically by Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, Spirit Lake Nation in North Dakota, over gerrymandering in the state. Spirit Lake Nation Chairperson, Lonna Jackson-Street commended the order saying:
Native voters have the right to vote on the same terms as all other voters. Today the Court helped protect those rights for all voters across the 8th Circuit. We will continue do whatever it takes to ensure our right to have fair representation and a voice is vindicated
This is obviously not the end of the road for this awful 8th Circuit Court decision, but it’s a win for now.
Wed, July 23 - Archbishop Jose Gomez launched a Family Assistance Program in Los Angeles, to help immigrant families who don’t feel safe leaving their homes with things like delivering food and groceries. THIS is Los Angeles. You can help out by checking out the diocese's immigrant support page. You can watch the NBC 4 segment below.
So I hope these wins give you the strength to continue to fight today!
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!

Just an FYI from a book study I’m in right now…although the government calls the Turtle Mountain people Chippewa, they identify as Ojibwe. Chippewa is a white assigned name.
