Three Wins Today, July 24, 2025
Please call out people for their ridiculous disinformation when you see it. When someone says Dems aren’t doing anything, they’re going to hear a lot of people agreeing with them, and very few proving them wrong. Please be someone who does. I truly believe, in my heart of hearts, that our biggest obstacle isn’t Republicans. If we were actually united, we could beat them easily. Instead, so many people on the left do their job for them. So just, call it out when you see it. It matters.
Anywho, here are three wins!
Wed, July 16 - USC and UCLA are coming together for ShadeLA, a project to bring more shade, both natural and man-made, to areas of LA considered “shade deserts.” There aren’t enough places to cool down in LA as the city warms. Not to mention LA, as of right now, will still be hosting FIFA in 2026, the Super Bowl in 2027 and the Olympics and Paralympics in 2028, so even more people are going to be around and need shade over the next few years.
Monica Dean, the climate and sustainability practice director at USC Dornsife, who are spearheading the project, said:ShadeLA is about more than trees and structures — it’s about people. This campaign addresses heat not just as an environmental issue, but as a public health, infrastructure and community challenge. We’re designing solutions to protect lives — during major events and every day.
This is another one of those wins that is super local but will change so many lives. And as an Angeleno, I know why this is so important for our city firsthand, and I can’t wait to see ShadeLA come to life. I just hope, when they are able to plant trees, that they’re prioritizing native ones, but given all the incredible partners I have no doubt this is their first priority.
Sun, July 20 - Reagan appointee, Judge Henry Wingate issued a TRO in the Mississippi law preventing schools from participating in DEI that went into effect in April.
In the ruling, Judge Wingate said:Though HB 1193 became law in April 2025, the confusion it has caused is not static; it is compounding. Institutions have spent the intervening months attempting to interpret and implement the statute, often erring on the side of caution by canceling or defunding programming that arguably falls within its prohibitions. This prolonged period of uncertainty has deepened the chilling effect…The impact is not hypothetical.
Love this in general, but especially when it comes from a Reagan judge. This is temporary, a TRO can only last two weeks. He originally set the hearing for July 23, yesterday, but, Joshua Tom, at MS ACLU got it moved to Aug 5.
Even though it’s only temporary, this is a win. Delaying is always a win.
Mon, July 21 - Obama appointee, Judge Indira Talwani issued a preliminary injunction to pause the defunding of Planned Parenthood facilities, but only for those that do not provide abortions or received less than $800k in Medicare reimbursements in 2023. Obviously this is not ideal but anything that keeps funding for any amount of faciities that can save lives and make life any more bearable is a massive win. Planned Parenthood National, Massachusets and Utah released a joint statement:
This isn’t over. While we’re grateful that the court recognized the harm caused by this law, we’re disappointed that not all members were granted the necessary relief today. Patients across the country should be able to go to their trusted Planned Parenthood provider for birth control, cancer screenings, and STI testing and treatment. This is about patients and their right to get care — no matter their insurance. The court has not yet ruled on whether it will grant preliminary injunctive relief to other members. We remain hopeful that the court will grant this relief. There will be nothing short of a public health crisis if Planned Parenthood members are allowed to be ‘defunded.’
I will keep you posted as we know more about the fate of the other facilities.
I know these aren’t the complete wins we hope for, but we need to celebrate these partial wins too cause these do make a difference in people’s lives, even when they’re not everything we hoped for.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
