Three Wins Today, July 22, 2025
Hello! Today was another day where I had a long list of stories, and it turns out most of them weren’t usable. Love that for me. Also, I started using Claude to find sources. The reality is, Google is no longer a viable search engine 99% of the time, so AI it is, I guess. But I will say, the AI isn’t finding everything either, but it is marginally better than Google, so, there’s that. I won’t use AI for writing or brainstorming or anything, but as a search engine? I’m getting more okay with that, and I have to, cause the other options are shit.
Hope you enjoyed today’s rant. Let’s move on to today’s wins!
Wed, July 16 - NAACP and Young Gifted & Green have joined forces to appeal the permits that Shelby County Department of Health gave for the xAI data center in Memphis, Tennessee. The fact that any Department of Health would give a permit for a 24/7 turbine that emits methane gas is absolutely wild.
The appeal was filed by Southern Enviornmental Law Center. Senior attorney, Amanda Garcia said:
The Shelby County Health Department's decision to grant this permit not only violates federal law, it goes against the department's own regulations. The health department failed to hold xAI accountable for unlawfully installing 35 polluting methane gas turbines at the site before getting a permit, setting a dangerous precedent that opens the door for xAI or other companies to run any number of new polluting turbines at any time without any public oversight or approval.
This is despicable, and I’m so glad that NAACP and YGG are taking a stand.
And shout out to State Rep Justin Pearson, who represents the area, for bringing attention to this win!
Fri, July 18 - WGA East is asking NY AG Letitia James to join the California investigation into Paramount following The Late Show with Stephen Colbert cancellation.
In a press release, they said:
The Writers Guild of America calls on New York State Attorney General Letitia James, no stranger to prosecuting Trump for illegal business practices, to join California and launch an investigation into potential wrongdoing at Paramount. We call on our elected leaders to hold those responsible to account, to demand answers about why this beloved program was canceled and to assure the public that Colbert and his writers were not censored due to their views or the whims of the President.
Looking forward to AG James getting involved with this one.
Fri, July 18 - George W Bush Appointee, Julia Gibbons ruled that the 2024 Tennessee law that bans adults from telling minors about out of state abortion options cannot take effect.
In her opinion, she said:
[this law] prohibits speech encouraging lawful abortion while allowing speech discouraging lawful abortion. That is impermissible viewpoint discrimination, which the First Amendment rarely tolerates and does not tolerate here.
Now this isn’t the end of the road for this awful law, but it’s certainly a nice win from a relatively unexpected place.
And shout out to Tennessee Lookout for their reporting.
So those are just some of today’s wins. I hope this reminds you that there are wins every single day!
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!

I knew CBS would bring holy hell on themselves...but when the NY State and California AGs have to get involved to investigate....it's that bad. Plus people forget that NY State and California don't play around since they both are anchors for Most Major US TV networks (in this case, the Broadcast Center, and the Ed Sullivan Theater in NYC).
