Three Wins Today July 18, 2025
New thing that won’t affect you at all, but it will absolutely affect me. It is 12pm and I am starting Three Wins Today. Usually, I do it after Daily Dems, but, I think, by doing it before, I will be able to finish my work sooner. Anyway, that’s a bit of lore about what’s going on with this series. Excited to feel like I’m not on such a time crunch!
Let’s get started!
Wed, July 16 - California Governor, Gavin Newsom announced that California is working with Trevor Project to provide special training for 988 crisis councilors to support Queer youth who just lost the LGBTQ+ specific support. Newsom said in a statement:
“While the Trump administration continues its attacks on LGBTQ kids, California has a message to the community: we see you and we’re here for you. We’re proud to work with the Trevor Project to ensure that every person in our state can get the support they need to live a happy, healthy life.”
I hope other states follow suit.
Fri, July 11 - The Maine Supreme Court ruled that the language, approved by Maine’s Dem Secretary of State, Shenna Bellows, for the voter suppresion ballot measure will stand. The measure is called “An Act to Require an Individual to Present Photographic Identification for the Purpose of Voting.” They said:
although the question is longer than most have been in the past, that is because it lists the salient features of the legislation in short, easily understood phrases. The wording may be complex, but it is not complicated.
The measure will continue to read:
Do you want to change Maine election laws to eliminate two days of absentee voting, prohibit requests for absentee ballots by phone or family members, end ongoing absentee voter status for seniors and people with disabilities, ban prepaid postage on absentee ballot return envelopes, limit the number of drop boxes, require voters to show certain photo ID before voting, and make other changes to our elections?
And Republicans will not be able to make it more confusing so more people vote for it. This is a huge win for Maine voting rights!
Tues, July 8 - The Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled against the Republican legislature controlling what the Attorney General does. Now, I did cover this at the time, but it’s a massive win, but a bit confusing. That same day AG Josh Kaul released a statement on the win, and I think it’s just a bit clearer why this is such a big deal. He said:
This decision will mean a fundamental change—for the better—in how Wisconsin state government works. No longer will a small group of legislators be able to block or suspend common-sense administrative rules indefinitely. Instead, rules that protect Wisconsinites will be able to be adopted without being subject to an unconstitutional legislative committee veto.
I hope you understand why I felt it was necessary to cover this one again. I promise it’s not because there aren’t other wins, in fact, I have a list of 15 that I’m working my way through.
Remember, every day there are wins, no matter how much DT is trying to destroy. We are always fighting back.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!

Thank you for your hard work!
