Three Wins Today (Feb 1, 2025)
We have a couple of pretty major wins today!
Hundreds of students at ASU (Arizona State University) held a pro immigration protest in response to a right-wing event teaching students how to help ICE deport their classmates. According to the Arizona Mirror, the protest overwhelmed the event and made immigrant students feel seen and protected. I think this is such an important reminder that even though we aren’t seeing every protest that doesn’t mean people aren’t protesting.
Costco and Teamsters reached an 11th-hour tentative deal, so there will be no strike. The Teamsters represent 18k employees across 6 states. It’s not a huge amount of Costco workers, but different stores were trying to get non union workers to scab and this would have negatively effected Costco as a whole. Plus a union win is always a huge win.
The NY Dem legislature is playing hardball. They are considering changing state law to allow Hochul to take longer to fill Stefanik’s vacant seat. Currently a special election for US House must take place between 70 and 80 days after the seat becomes vacant, but this seat is expected to stay red, so they are going to try keeping it vacant longer. If DT continues the way he is, I think we have a chance of flipping it, but having more time to do so, could be in our favor as well.
And that’s today’s Three Wins. If you want to see all the wins every day, you should be following me on Blue Sky or Threads, I post so many more throughout the day.
Come back tomorrow for three more!
