Three Wins Today: Aug 5, 2025
I hope you’re talking about Texas as often as possible. We can’t assume everyone knows about the Republican Gerrymandering or understands that Democrats left to protect us not to run away. So please amplify what’s happening in Texas as much as possible! And, if you want to donate, or direct other people to donate and help our Texas Dems, riggedredistricting.com is the BEST way to do so.
Onto today’s wins!
Wed, July 23 - The Amazon Web Service pulled their plans to build a new data center in Louisa County, Virginia, which would have been the fourth in the county. The rest, unfortunately, are still moving forward. The attorney for AWS, Charles Payne Jr. sent an email to county officials stating:
We have heard the community and appreciate the desire for more robust input in any future projects that may be brought forward in the county, and we are confident that this is a goal that can be accomplished.
This center was praised by Republican county board of supervisors chair, Duane Adams, just another reminder of how important it is to vote in all races, not just the ones that get attention.
Shout out to Virginia Mercury for their reporting on this story.
Tue, July 29 - Fairfax County, Virginia, Judge, Jonathan Frieden ruled that Gov Glen Youngkin cannot appoint board members without legislative approval, and that when the legislature didn’t confirm his nominees that was deliberate, not an accident. Yes, this is actually what this case is about.
The Confirmation Resolution was a request to confirm the Disputed Appointees. The Senate understood that request and, through the Committee’s decision to reject it, manifested an unwillingness to confirm the Disputed Appointees. The Senate rejected the Disputed Appointees
and, by doing so, manifested the refusal of the General Assembly to confirm them.
And yes, I did read it about five times cause I also couldn’t believe that was actually the argument the Virginia executive branch was making.
This is today’s second reminder of the importance of elections. And, it’s worth noting, executive branch races cannot be gerrymandered. If you live in Virginia, you have the power to get Youngkin and the rest of his colleagues out of office!
TODAY - Geoff Duncan, former Republican Georgia Lt Governor announced in an Atlanta Journal Constitution opinion piece today, that he has become a Democrat. Here is a small quote from that article:
My decision was centered around my daily struggle to love my neighbor, as a Republican.
Throughout the course of time one of the most recognizable moral standards that communities around the world hold themselves accountable to is “love my neighbor.” The brilliance of this simple faith-inspired phrase is it takes on a different meaning every minute of every day with no asterisk.
That basic principal is not a Republican value anymore, and it hasn’t been for a long time. I think a lot of Republicans, Duncan included, had hoped that the Republican party they belonged to would one day come back, cutting ties was admitting that would never be the case. So even though he left the party a long time ago, abandoning it was a different story, and in his opinion, it has now passed the point of no return. Welcome, Geoff Duncan, we are so happy to have you!
I still can’t quite wrap my head around #2. There’s a level of, arrogance, I guess, that is just hard to comprehend. That said, it’s still a great, win, as are the other two. I hope you agree!
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!

I followed the link to read Geoff Duncan's op ed. It's a really nice piece. He could have taken an easier route and become an Independent, but chose to become a Democrat. That's a big win.
Geoff Duncan is the real deal. In 2020, he decided he was going to speak up against Trump. Yeah it did cost him being nominated as Lt. Governor of Georgia, but doing the right thing is sometimes not easy. Also unlike Brad Raffensperger, he's not going to just do the barest minimum.
