Three Wins Today: Aug 3, 2025
Today is a good day. And yes, I am going to cover one of the major wins, because everyone seems to be covering it using Republican language and that HAS to stop.
Today’s wins!
TODAY - Democratic Texas House members have left the state, effectively breaking quorum. Texas Republicans do not have enough votes to continue with their gerrymandering scam right now. The Democrats worked with Illinois Gov, JB Pritzker to pull this off, and will be spending this time in IL with the Governor and other Dem leaders figuring out next steps. There is going to be a lot of disinformation, because that’s what happens when there’s a lot of news coming out really quickly, so make sure you are getting your news from members of the Texas House Democrats. This was their official announcement.
I also want to mention that saying they are “fleeing” feeds into the Republican talking point that this is running away. I think the absolute best wording is what our Texas Dems said “As of today, this corrupt special session is over.” Or, you know, the official phrase “they broke quorum and walked out”

Mon, July 28 - I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Liz Oyer, the former US pardon attorney who was fired when she refused to break the law and pardon who Trump wanted. The whole interview is worth watching, and I don’t just say that cause it’s mine. She, of course, talks about being fired and threatened to not tell her story, but she also talks about the Justice Department and what it stood for and what it can stand for again, and how she wants to be part of it’s future. This is the first interview she has done that went further than just answering questions about her firing or specific current events.
This clip is about what working in the Pardon Department used to mean, and why when she was fired, many of her colleagues left as well.

Fri, July 25 - Biden Appointee, Judge Lindsay Jenkins dismissed the Trump Administration’s attempt to get rid of Illinois’ status as a sanctuary state and their sanctuary cities with on the grounds of the 10th amendment:
Once again, the anticommandeering doctrine is at play. As explained, the Sanctuary Policies reflect Defendants’ decision to not participate in enforcing civil immigration law—a decision protected by the Tenth Amendment and not preempted by the INA. Finding that these same Policy provisions constitute discrimination or impermissible regulation would provide an end-run around the Tenth Amendment. It would allow the federal government to commandeer States under the guise of intergovernmental immunity—the exact type of direct regulation of states barred by the Tenth Amendment.
It’s amazing how much that Trump tries to do just against the constitution.
