Great post. I really like the way you center sources - actual sources. Key to fighting misinformation. Hooray for that tiny town in Alabama to show us the way in rural communities everywhere. The turn about if the League of Women voters is HUGE. Yes, individuals do make change! And SEPTA?! Good for Malcolm Kenyatta for bringing the light on it. I rode SEPTA for years. Talk about supporting LABOR? Public transit is a core value. π₯³πΊπΈπͺπΌ
It is a lot of work to center sources, but I would not do it any other way. I also try to amplify the best local news publication that covered it as much as possible because my work was informed by theirs and they were the ones who did it first and got the quotes
Because of Jess Craven, I wrote an email to the LWV. I urged them to not only get on board with the redistricting in CA but also to change their rule about allowing only the candidates who show up to debate. For YEARS in Texas, the Democratic candidates would show up but not be allowed to speak because the Republican candidates didn't bother to attend. From my perspective, it's fair to allow all parties an opportunity to speak but, if they don't show, they've forfeited their chance. Maybe some of them would show if they knew it mattered. No response.
While itβs better than opposing, Iβm still extremely frustrated with the League of Women Voters, and anyone βgoing highβ while our country is going to hell. Iβm so sick of Republicans playing dirty and winning, but when Democrats do the same thing, weβre βjust as bad.β No wonder nothing gets done in this country. Anyway, great wins!
The League of Women Voters is an anti-gerrymandering organization. They are never gonna support any gerrymandering for any reason but changing it to neutral is a huge deal.

This is why I value what you do. You infuse it with your values.

Good reporting Arielle!
Good reporting. Love the Alabama story!
