California is officially fighting fire with fire
Three Wins Today, Aug 14, 2025
I want everyone who reads this to drop what they’re doing and go check if you’re still registered to vote. I also want you to put a weekly reminder to go check if you’re registered. Republicans are trying to remove Dems from the voter rolls across the country, especially in battleground states for Senate and districts for House across the country.
The DOJ is getting access to voter roll data that they absolutely shouldn’t have. And while we have to let the lawyers fight to stop them, we can normalize checking our voter registration, so they have a much harder time.
It’s in a different place for each state, but if you type your state and “check my voter registration” into google, you’re looking for the .gov link. Once you find the page, bookmark it.
Trump is absolutely going to try to rig the 2026 election, but there are little things we can do to make it harder. Raising awareness about this and normalizing checking are two huge ones.
On that note, here are some of today’s wins!
For a bite size version in video form, head to the end of this post!
TODAY - Ohio utility customers no longer have taxes included in their utility bill that keep two 1950s coal plants open, one not even in Ohio. Since 2019, when HB 6 was signed into law, customers who use various utility companies have been charged more than $500k total to keep these plants open. And now, finally, thanks to HB 15, which was signed into law in May, that ends today, five years earlier than HB 6 planned.
Shout out to Canary Media for their reporting, though, I wish the article was written in simpler terms. I hope I managed to do that here.
Thu, Aug 7 - Massachusetts Governor, Maura Healey signed the “SHIELD Act 2.0” into law which helps protect reproductive rights and gender affirming care.
The law focuses on closing loopholes that could help out of state law enforcement with finding out if someone has has an abortion or gender affirming surgery. Making sure sensitive data, like doctors names are explicitly undisclosed and helping businesses protect the data in their systems as well.
Governor Healey said:
From the moment Roe was overturned, we stepped up to pass strong protections for patients and providers, and with President Trump and his allies continuing their assaults on health care, we’re taking those protections to the next level. No one is going to prevent the people of Massachusetts from getting the health care they need.
Congrats to Massachusetts!
TODAY - Governor Gavin Newsom and other California elected officals held a press conference announcing a November ballot measure that will make it possible to gerrymander the state and nullify what Texas is in the process of doing. This is a huge story, probably the biggest of the day, so normally I wouldn’t include it, but, I really need to emphasize, this is not like other elections.
Your own neighborhood is a swing district. It doesn’t matter how blue your area is, this is not straight forward, especially for people who haven’t been paying attention to Texas. California does not have off year state wide elections, so on top of convincing people this election matters, we also have to make sure they even know there is an election.
This is not travel to red district and knock on doors. This is everywhere. Every city, every county, every district. So the fact that Newsom is doing this is a massive win, but the only way we can guarantee it’s a win in November is if we fight for it, and the fight starts right now. As of right now, the call to action is making sure people even know there IS an election in November, and I will keep you posted on next steps. Here is a sneak peak of the announcement video, I say sneak peek cause I can’t find it anywhere other than his Threads.
Below is the press conference
California is not known for being able to pull something like this off. So I don’t want anyone to think this is a slam dunk. It’s going to be hard work, but as Kamala always said, “we like hard work, hard work is good work.” Let’s get to work!
So that’s what I got for you today. I hope this sparks something, especially the last one since it is a direct call to action.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!

Checked my Secretary of State's webpage to check my registration. Will share with others to regularly check theirs. Thank you for your advocacy.
His social media team rocks. 😂
