My final election plea, California
Wow that sounded very fundraisingy, promise, it's just a normal yap
California Election Day is TODAY. When polls close tonight, that’s it.
So I want to do one more final plea to convince you to vote.
It’s not because of Governor anymore. I mean Governor is important, but as long as you vote for Xavier Becerra or Tom Steyer we should be totally fine.
However, the thing that scares me is new congressional districts.
Prop 50 changed the districts but it didn’t change the jungle primary. Which means it’s still the top two candidates, regardless of party, that go to the general election.
Therefore, Prop 50 only matters if at least one Dem gets in the top two, and that’s not a given in every district.
There are too many Dems on the ballot in too many districts, and the vote could EASILY be split enough, in these newly safe Dem districts, that there could be places a Dem won’t even get to the general election.
That, in my view, is one of the most important reasons to vote today.
And, don’t get me wrong, there are MANY other important reasons. For my ballot, City Council is one of the most important races. As far as Congress goes, I am in Ted Lieu’s district and CA-36 is one of the few CA districts where the boundaries did not change at all. So for me, Congress is not a concern.
But I am in Los Angeles Council District-11 which is currently represented by Traci Park. She is a great advocate for single family home owners and pretty shitty for everyone else.
This race only has two candidates, so it’s over tonight, this is the general election. For me, this is the most important race, and I’m voting for Faizah Malik.
But for most districts in the state, Congress matters a whole lot. The House majority is in the hands of Californians today.
Not in November, today.
So PLEASE vote! I know the ballot is long. I know it’s complicated, but there are so many resources to help you vote, including my own endorsements (and I will be checking my DMs all day and would be happy to answer specific questions about your ballot).
If you turned your ballot in already but haven’t gotten a confirmation on ballottrax that it was counted, consider going to your polling place and making sure it counted, if not, fill out a provisional ballot.
ESPECIALLY true if you mailed it. USPS cannot be trusted anymore. Whatever you do. DO NOT MAIL YOUR BALLOT TODAY. Either use a drop box or walk it into the polling place.
California makes it SO easy to vote, all you have to do is do it.
That also includes people who aren’t registered, you can register WHEN YOU VOTE. So you can go to the polling place today and register in person and your vote will still be counted once your registration clears.
And if you have no transportation, in LA, at least, the Metro is free today so everyone can get to the polls.
So please, if you haven’t voted already, you still have till polls close at 8pm to get in line. And if you are in line at 8pm, STAY IN LINE!
Current turnout numbers are scaring me, hopefully it’s just a slow system, but if not, we’re on track for exceptionally low turnout. So PLEASE VOTE!
Remember, your vote is your voice and that voice is your superpower!
