In case you forgot Republicans have the power
BUT SO DO WE!
GET A FUCKING GRIP!
First, THERE WILL BE ELECTIONS.
How do I know, because we LITERALLY have massive elections TODAY.
If you can’t think as far ahead as November, fine, think about today, this week, next week, this month, take it one election at a time, but understand the ELECTIONS ARE IMPORTANT. And if they weren’t, we wouldn’t be here.
We also MUST vote to make sure we are never here again.
I can’t overstate it. Democrats do not have power today. And that’s because we did not elect enough of them to have power today.
Only the cabinet can invoke the 25th amendment, so that was never a possibility.
But, impeachment takes the majority of the House and TWO THIRDS of the Senate.
We CAN absolutely get the House majority in November, and the way things are going, we might even be able to get 2/3rds of the Senate.
BUT WE DON’T HAVE THOSE THINGS NOW!
Democrats have the power to make statements publicly and argue and beg and urge and demand behind the scenes.
That’s it.
I see people saying they get that, but they need a united statement. Great, we have one from the House Dems.
And the WILD thing is that, you are demanding a united message ON THE POST OF THE UNITED MESSAGE.
People are saying they should go to DC.
But, they don’t have the power to open the House or the Senate, that’s Speaker Johnson and Leader Thune, so what do you want them to DO in DC?
A press conference on the Capitol Steps?
They do those, A LOT, and usually when they do those the comments read “DO SOMETHING!”
Sit in outside the doors to the floor? Sure, they could do that, but would that get Trump impeached or invoke the 25th amendment?
No, it would just be platitudes to make you feel like they’re DOING SOMETHING, and people would probably still say it’s pathetic, cause that’s the running mantra.
Do you know what they’re doing right now — Besides making statements against what Trump said, that you insist aren’t being made or aren’t strong enough?
They’re meeting with constituents.
The word “Recess” is becoming misleading and harmful.
Because they’re not just sitting at home twiddling their thumbs. I mean Republicans probably are, but Democrats aren’t.
As we speak in this very moment, I can promise you:
Some Dems are meeting with family of those who were taken by ICE, hearing their stories and coming up with a gameplan to get them back.
Some Dems are meeting with farmers and hearing first hand about how their farms are in trouble because of rising gas prices and how it’s going to disrupt the entire supply chain.
Some Dems are at hospitals hearing how they had to close their ICU because their funding is drying up.
And so many more conversations that are just as important on all sorts of issues. That’s the point of In District Work Period.
But guess what? Republicans are home too, probably not working, but they are home, so go to their offices and make noise, be loud and obnoxious! Call so much that their phones fall off the hook. Talk to your friends and family in red states and make sure they know what’s going on.
Call Johnson and Thune and DEMAND they bring congress back in session.
And for the love of god, VOTE! We now know what happens when Republicans have the majority. It fucking sucks. So let’s not make the same mistake again!
Do not take any election for granted in a Blue Dot and do not assume that you have no power in a Red Dot. Right now, even some MAGA are concerned. We could win in places we’ve never won before. Tonight’s election in MTG’s old district will tell us a lot.
WE HAVE MORE POWER THAN OUR DEMS IN CONGRESS, SO FUCKING USE IT FOR GOOD!
