If only Dems were holding the line on ICE funding...
Oh wait, they are.
So I hear we’re still shitting on Senate Dems.
They are holding the line, tirelessly voting against further funding ICE and we’re still shitting on them.
You know why ICE is handing out water at airports (which is laughable btw, considering you have to literally dump it out to go through security)?
Because TSA is still not getting paid.
You know why?
Because Dems are still holding the line.
Dems have put forward ELEVEN separate bills to fund agencies within DHS like TSA, excluding ICE and immigration agencies, and Republicans have shut it down every single time.
And Dems have not wavered an inch.
In fact, when Republicans put out a offer on Tuesday, that Trump agreed to, to fund all of DHS except ICE — with the assumption that they will fund ICE and try to pass the SAVE Donald Trump’s Ass Act without Democrats through reconciliation at a later date (SDTAA would almost certainly be removed by the parliamentarian since it has nothing to do with budget) — Dems pushed back.
It’s not just about not funding ICE, there have to be some guard rails in place too, like no masks.
Republicans then retorted that if ICE isn’t getting funded then they shouldn’t be included in this at all. Dems argued that CPB IS getting funded (in this proposal, which is another reasons Dems nixed it), and they are just as guilty of hurting Americans as ICE is.
And now, as of when this is being posted, we’re at another standstill.
In the end, there will be a deal, and we won’t like everything in that deal, because these agencies, other than the immigration ones, DO need to be funded, (and we are in the minority) but it won’t be what Republicans want, and that’s important to remember.
So, bottom line, Republicans keep caving and Democrats keep pushing back, and if anyone is talking about it, it’s in the same way someone would talk about the weather.
WHY?
Why can’t we celebrate our Dems and urge them on when they’re doing the right thing?
Why do we always stop listening when they do what we want, and, more infuriating, start finding something new to complain about?
Our Dems are fighting this, on the floor, behind closed doors, on the steps of the Capital and around the country.
WHY IS IT NOT BEING GIVEN THE TRACTION IT DESERVES??
41 days, they’ve been at this 41 days.
How many days will they have to get to for us to start paying attention and cheering them on?
