ICE return the $75b challenge!
Doomerella Gets Schooled: Episode 7
Democrats are always trying things. After watching this, maybe you’ll get it. When we remember they’re the minority, it’s easier to get excited about the wins they DO have, rather than focusing on the things they can’t do. Just a thought...
Dems mentioned:
The Blue Print
Rep Mike Thompson (CA-04)
Rep John Larson (CT-01)
Rep Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03)
Rep Kim Schrier (WA-08)
Rep Judy Chu (CA-08)

Transcript:
A: Doomerella, are you okay…
D: I feel like an elephant is jumping on my uterus, so I literally beg you, please give me something, literally anything to make me feel like this elephant isn’t gonna crush my soul too.
A: Well, you’re in luck, cause I got some great stories this week.
D: You say that ever week
A: Yeah, and, isn’t it true every week?
D: Maybe…
A: So the DNC
D: No no no, you are not starting with the DNC
A: Yes, yes, yes, I really am, so shut it.
D: (groans)
A: was that in pain or at the DNC?
D: BOTH
A: (laughs) So, the DNC is starting something called “Local Listeners”
D: Why does that sound like a bad podcast?
A: Maybe cause you are already judging it before you hear what it actually is?
D: Fine, what is it?
A: Thousands of volunteers will be trained to have in depth conversations with people on the left who voted in 2020, but not 2024.
D: That sounds….promising?
A: Horrified that I didn’t says something you can make fun of?
D: Yeah, I really am. It’s….smart.
A: As Chair Ken Martin explained “Local Listeners is a massive voter contact operation built on a simple but powerful idea: If we want to keep earning back the trust and support of voters, we have to listen to them.”
D: Will they actually change anything though?
A: Well…have you seen this tactic before?
D: No…
A: So…wouldn’t that mean they’ve already changed things?
D: Who else?
A: No comeback?
D: No, who else?
A: Mike Thompson gave a very important reminder.
D: And that is????
A: Watch
D: Thugs, nice strong language there.
A: Do you actually think so or are you being sarcastic
D: No that was genuine. I mean, that’s what they are and it’s nice to hear someone say it.
A: yeah, especially someone who’s been against the whole thing from the beginning
D: Yeah, when was ICE created???
A: March 2003
D: WHAT? So…there are still other current members who were there.
A: yep.
D: And you see this as a good thing?
A: I like the reminder that some current members have been loudly against it the entire time. A reminder of how new the department is.
D: Yeah, I guess. What else?
A: A letter was successful.
D: A strongly worded letter?
A: Yeah
D: Your never gonna stop trying to convince me they work, are you?
A: I’ll stop trying when they stop working
D: Fine, what’s this one?
A: Judy Chu and Kim Schrier led the letter signed by 108 Dems and endorsed by 20 organizations back in December demaning an investigation into the new hep b vaccine restrictions
D: okay…
A: last week, John Larson, one of the signers of the letter announced that on Jan 22, that the government accountability office will be conducting that investigation. And the letter is why.
D: Oh…
A: Yeah
D: I need to stop making fun of them
A: That would be good, yeah.
D: Okay, what else?
A: Yassamin Ansari introduced her DRAIN ICE Act
D: Sound promising
A: yeah it’s a bill to reverse the $75b ICE got in the big ugly bill.
D: THEY GOT WHAT??
A: That’s why a shut down doesn’t hurt them. They’re already funded for a couple of years
D: Those mother…sorry.
A: It’s fine, I feel it too.
D: Can it pass?
A: What do you think?
D: Then why do it?
A: Would you rather they didn’t try anything?
D: Well…no
A: Exactly. They are using every single tool they have, but being in the minority, most of that is messaging.
D: right.
A: And that’s today’s Doomerella Gets Schooled. Remember that Dems are always finding creative ways to fight back, but it’s our job to make sure people know about it.
