Daily Dems Doing the Work, Making Noise and Fighting Back Day 254
Are you sure they're not messaging on it?
9 times out of 10, whenever someone comments “Why aren’t Democrats doing X?” It’s something Dems are doing, and are messaging on, it’s just not getting traction. So, before you say that, make sure no one is, or, on the other hand, just amplify what you see, cause it’s probably something someone else thinks isn’t happening.
Repping the Rep: Don Davis (NC-01)
Posted his week in review, and included a list of all the governmental departments that are still open during the shutdown. As well as a reminder that his office is still open, unlike Republicans.
I think it’s super important to both message on the shut down and healthcare, but also let their constituents know that there are still some tools they can utilize. Not everything, but social security checks are still going out and unemployment offices are still open, and for some people not knowing that could result in them literally not having enough food to put on the table.
Shutdowns are not a good thing, they hurt a lot of people. I’m glad Dems are making sure they inform their constituents so they continue to get as much support as possible.

Rep Eric Sorensen
Has started a new season of his series “Myth vs Fact” and the first episode is all about the Republican lie that undocumented immigrants can join a federal healthcare program like ACA or Medicaid.
He then goes into what the next question inevitably is, “Well then, why do they get emergency care?”:
But the problem is, and they know it, if you say a lie over and over and over again, people are going to begin to believe it, and then, when someone pushes back and say “what about illegal immigrants who come to the emergency room?” We need to say that that treatment is based on the Hippocratic oath, and honestly, it should be part of our morality.
It is a flawless video. And it’s getting some of the attention it deserves, especially on Facebook. Definitely give this one a watch.

Sen Richard Blumenthal (CT)
Had a constituent named Luna Rosado tell her healthcare story. Stories like hers are what help change hearts and minds:
Medicaid is not just a program, it is a lifeline for individuals like myself that have children, that have no accessible emergency funds.
She continues,
Without this coverage, I would not have been able to afford any type of treatment and I would have just had to been living with pain and healthcare is a human right, it should be accessible to everyone.
It makes me think about my pain, from fibromyalgia to endometriosis, to whatever is going on with my back right now. I have an incredible PT FINALLY, and if my doctor hadn’t fought tooth and nail, the insurance company would have never let me do the tilt table test to find out I had POTS.
Living with pain is something I know, and I know so many others do too, so many others like me, who have never had to think about the possibility of not having access anymore. A video like this, could touch them.
Rep Maxine Dexter (OR-03)
Put out a reminder that Republicans are just pulling a stunt in Portland, and we really don’t want to give them amo:
Yesterday, the federal officers at the ICE facility increased, and they had embedded right wing media with them, forcibly pushing back peaceful protesters, in daylight, using teargas and non lethal rounds
She continues:
Make no mistake, this is a red alert moment, and we cannot play into the Republican Admin’s hands here. So please, for everything you can, peacefully protest, we cannot stand for this, but don’t take the bait, do not go to the Southwest McAdam ICE facility. It is a trap. They are trying to tell the story about us that doesn’t exist, and when we show up, and, no matter peacefully or not, they are telling a story that does not reflect reality.
Not taking the bait does not mean standing down. It means standing up. It means pissing them off and making them reevaluate. We don’t want to hand them a story on a silver platter. No matter how peaceful we are, they will say or create something different.
Make them feel so useless they leave.

So those are some of our fighters, and I bet at least one of these posts answers your question or a friend’s question of “Why aren’t they messaging on X?” (said in the snarkiest voice possible, of course)
If you made it to the end of this post, comment 😣 (pain emoji) because these constituent story videos really can have an impact.
And if you watched or read any of these stories, comment 🐸 (frog) and if you’ve been watching the Portland protests, you know why.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!

😣 I am in a Portland suburb. Hope the ICE protesters do take the advice to not engage the thugs. It's fun stuff during the day but gets 'active' at night.
