Daily Dems Doing the Work, Making Noise and Fighting Back Day 171
Repping the Rep: Jimmy Panetta (CA-19)
Posted about how the Trade Sub Committee is still working on trying to reassert control over import taxes. It may feel like old news, but our Democrats haven’t stopped working on it.
Rep Kathy Castor (FL-14)
Shared the 10 egregious things you might not know about DT’s tax law from Center for American Progress. They also put out a more detailed version.
Sen Catherine Cortez Masto (NV)
Introduced an amendment to the rescission package that funding cannot be cut from NPR if it affects disaster warning systems and emergency preparedness. Collins and Murkowski were the only Republicans that voted in support of it.
Sen Michael Bennet (CO)
Did a fantastic breakdown of exactly which NPR and PBS stations are most likely to be affected, and it’s places you wouldn’t even think of, like for many tribal lands, that is their only local news. Our Dem AG filed an entire amicus brief, about a month ago, that explains it in much more detail.
Senator Elizabeth Warren (MA)
Made a really good, yet scary point about this rescission package. This is a trial run. DT is seeing if he can get away with having complete control over the budget. If he can claw this back, what else can he do?
This is why we need to be raising the alarm about this way more than we are.

Rep Ami Bera (CA-06)
Interrogated the Deputy Secretary of State Management Resources, Michael Riggs in the Foreign Affairs Committee hearing yesterday. He argued that the US is now more concerned with trade than aid. He proved that our foreign aid work is less than a fraction of our budget, yet Republicans are working so hard to destroy it. As a result everything in this country is becoming transactional.

And finally….
Senator Peter Welch's Substack (VT)
Put together a list of how much each state‘s local public broadcasting services will be affected by the end of federal funding, and these numbers are staggering. Especially when you think that they have to be replaced by donations from viewers like you.

As of my writing this there is still time to call your Republican senators. The name of the game is delay. This package literally expires at midnight on Friday.
If you made it to the end of this post, comment 🥽 (safety goggles) because we need to save and protect the systems that keep us safe
And if you watched it or read any of these stories, comment with 🩹 (band aid) because foreign aid doesn’t just make the world safer. It makes us safer, too.
Our voices are our superpower, but ONLY when we use them!

🩹🥽 great work — thank you!!!
