Daily Dems Doing the Work, Making Noise adn Fighting Back Day 248
If you saw this title before...no you didn't (I accidentally used this instead of Three Wins earlier)
What frustrates me the most when people have a problem with Dem messaging is that they’re not looking at it. They’re looking at the few clips that big accounts pull and assuming that’s everything.
Could some aspects of the messaging be better? Sure. But if you don’t think it’s already pretty good, the algorithms and media are doing their jobs.
Repping the Rep-elect: Adelita Grijalva (AZ-07)
Was on MSNBC’s the Weekend. She was asked about the ICE raids, and what she said was really powerful:
People are literally disappearing off our streets, and so we have to fight back against that, we have to, and that’s what our community wants to see. I mean I believe very strongly the reason why I’m in this position is to let people know what it’s like to live in constant fear of somebody showing up and taking you whether you have the legal status or not, they’re not even asking questions.
She believes she was elected to tell this story. One reason I am so excited for her to FINALLY be sworn in. Until she is, keep pressuring Johnson. He could call a pro forma session at any time.

Sen Richard Blumenthal (CT)
And Senator Elizabeth Warren (MA) held a Spotlight Hearing yesterday, titled “The Easy Way or the Hard Way: Confronting Trump’s Censorship.” Anna Gomez, FCC Commissioner; Connor Gaffney, Counsel at Protect Democracy; Robert Corn-Revere, Chief Counsel at Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE); and Oliver Darcy, Founder and author at Status testified as experts on free speech.
Blumenthal began the hearing saying:
Last week we saw something really remarkable. The American people stepped forward and spoke truth to power. After Jimmy Kimmel was taken off the air, consumers, viewers, advertisers, ordinary citizens, rose up to condemn the government pressure that led to his removal, and successfully advocated for his return. But, make no mistake, there is no cause for complacency here, none, zero, and for anyone who might be tempted to say, “Well, didn’t you get what you wanted? Why are you having this hearing?” The simple answer is that the mounting threat to free speech and criticism, public dissent and other kinds of first amendment free expression is growing, not subsiding in this country.
It’s so important that he acknowledged the power we have, and what we did, but that we’re gonna have to keep doing this over and over again cause this isn’t getting easier. I really like that frank messaging.

Rep Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37)
And Rep Judy Chu (CA-28) hosted a round table at the beginning of September (though this clip is from this week) with State Senator Sasha Renee Perez (SD-25), Assemblymember Mike Fong (AD-49), and leaders from the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) on how Trumps cuts are affecting them.
Rep Kamlager-Dove put it very succinctly:
We are seeing a war on our jobs, we are seeing a war on our economy, and it is coming right from the White House. More than half of the students that attend an LACCD college, live below the poverty line. They need SNAP, to make sure they have food in their bellies so they can learn when they’re going to class. They need Medicare and Medicaid. They need to know that they’re not gonna be caps on students loans. They need to know that they can access financial aid. These are the threats that our students are facing.
I think college students have been left out of the conversation of those who will lose the most, but as she said, many community college students live below the poverty line, and they’re probably not able to work a full time job while in school, so this affects them doubly.
I hope this conversation helped bring their needs to the forefront.

House Democrats
Began a 24 hour live stream at 2pm ET all about healthcare and the shut down. They are speaking in groups, to influencers and giving the stage to everyday Americans who are about to be suffering more.
One of those influencers was CALL TO ACTIVISM. I asked him who is the best speaker so far (this was about three hours ago, and he said Congressman Greg Casar (TX-35), After watching just a few minutes of his speech, I understand why. Here’s how it started:
We’re ready to fight to make sure that everyday people don’t have to check their bank account on the way to the doctor. We’re ready to make sure our constituents don’t have to figure out how to pay an extra 10k a year out of their budgets for healthcare, just so billionaires can get another tax break. That’s what this fight is about. People can talk about cloture and continuing resolutions, this ain’t about that. This is about whether this government is for everyday people or the billonaire class and their puppet politicians.
You probably didn’t even know this was happening, or, if you did, it’s only because you saw my post about it.
This is what I mean by Dems are fighting back but it doesn’t break through cause the algorithm doesn’t want to. Now the only thing Dems could be doing is mentioning it anytime they’re on TV in this 24 hour period, which none of them have done, but that is the only part that is on them, and not us.
We have the power to bypass the algorithm by posting about it a whole bunch. They do not.
You can watch that and the rest of the first 12 hours below!

So those are some of today’s fighters. And I do mean some, every single Dem was messaging on the shut down today, just like yesterday.
If you made it to the end of this post, comment 🤬 (swearing emoji) cause Rep-elect Grijalva really should be sworn in by now.
And if you watched or read any of these stories, comment 📹 (video camera) because this live stream should be getting WAY more attention.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!

🤬 Rep Grijalva, and/or her State, will have to sue to get sworn in.
🤬📹 it is heartening to watch even snippets of the 12 hours of Dems defending health care for us
