Daily Dems Doing the Work, Making Noise and Fighting Back Day 226
Thanks to a new bs opinion from Ezra Klein, today’s post is brought to you by the wonderful work of the DNC, and if you haven’t donated recently, maybe consider doing so? Cause he just called them a disaster, and you know how that makes my blood boil.
Repping the Rep: Brad Schneider (IL-10)
Attended the Forrest Haven Centennial Block Party. Would I normally include this? Absolutely not, but since he’s my rep for the week, it’s a great excuse to talk about these importance of events like these.
There are some people who are really invested in local politics, but that’s only because they don’t even consider things that directly affect their lives “politics.”
People like that attend events like these, and when our electeds do too, those people are far more likely to vote. Constituents need to see real tangible effects of their vote, and showing up at Block Parties is a big part of that.
Is it fighting fascism? Well, if it gets people to vote Dem who wouldn’t otherwise? It sure as hell is.
Reps Jim McGovern (MA-02) and Gregory Meeks (NY-05)
Had a massive win in the Rules Committee today.
Back in February, Rep Meeks and Rep Chip Roy (R-TX-21) introduced a bill to repeal the 2002 and 1991 AUMFs (Authorization for Use of Military Force), which has been abused by presidents of both parties to unilaterally target our foreign adversaries.
Rep McGovern introduced it as an amendment to the National Defense Authorization act, and it passed 7-4. It is now in the bill as it heads to the House floor.
As McGovern said himself “This is a big deal.”

Rep Summer Lee (PA-12)
Had to listen to Republicans on the House Oversight Committee talk all about how much they love whistle blowers…on the subject of UFOs. Yes, that’s right, Democracy is crumbling, but Republicans want to talk about UFO transparency. Or, I’m sorry, what are they called now? Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena? I mean, it’s not that foreign threats we can’t identify aren’t important, there just are far more important things to worry about at this moment
Anyway, she flipped the subject on it’s head and used her five minutes to talk about the importance of whistleblowers in every single situation:
This admin’s claims to care about waste fraud and abuse, and so often it is the whistleblowers who care and who are the tip of the sword fighting against the real waste fraud and abuse. one study found that whistleblowers expose fraud at more than twice the rate of third party auditors.
Today I learned something new. I had no idea they were that important to the government being run efficiently and fairly. I feel like we only hear about whistleblowers when they are blowing their whistle, this was an important change of pace.

Reps Lateefah Simon (CA-12), AOC (NY-14), Don Norcross (NJ-01) and (CA)
Introduced the bicameral Empowering Striking Workers Act, which would let workers who are on strike apply for unemployment. It’s kind of incredible that this has never been introduced before.
I keep thinking about how scary the SAG strike was on TV and film actors. The food banks that had signs making it clear they were welcome and the strike funds they had to create just to go grocery shopping.
This seems like a no brainer, but this is just the beginning. With this congress, there is no way this bill is passing. However, they can lay the groundwork now, so that in 2027, when we have the House and Senate (manifesting) we can get it at least as far as the president’s desk. Most bills do not pass on the first try, but that just means it can immediately when we take power. Maybe it will become part of (OH-01) Pledge To America Package.

Rep Ami Bera (CA-06)
Posted the most fantastic video demanding RFK Jr. resign. In it, he says:
We relied on the CDC to help us with Tuberculosis outbreaks, measles, meningitis. They’ve always had one mission, to keep America Safe. Now they’ve put [James O’Neil] a yes man for RFK Jr’s policies, in charge? The CDC should be run by health experts, not conspiracy theorists. It should be run by doctors, and scientists, folks that studied the literature, not politicians. The CDC is meant to keep America safe. That’s why I’m calling for RFK Jr’s resignation.
It’s one of those videos that yet again makes me ask: “If our Dems are at fault for their posts not going viral, how does this video exist?”
This is fantastic, and no one knows he posted it. I hope that’s about the change.

Finally
Rep (NY-08)
Made his choices for the new, Republican led Jan 6 Subcommittee. Now, he doesn’t get final say, Speaker Mike Johnson does, but he made the best choices possible and I need to see more people praising that.
Rep Eric Swalwell (CA-10) is ranking member, and then there’s Rep Jasmine Crockett (TX-30), Jared Moskowitz (FL-23) and former chair, Jamie Raskin (MD-08)
There are no four people better at taking down Republicans in our entire Caucus.
At their press conference, Raskin praised Rep Jeffries for his hard work creating this team:
Leader Jeffries was a hero on January 6 when he insisted we go back to the floor and complete the counting of the electoral college votes, and he’s a hero again now as he opposes this absurd and ridiculous effort by the republicans again to spread lies, when the truth is completely known.

So those are just some of today’s fighters. And two massive tangible wins for all those people who can’t stand my praise of messaging.
If you made it to the end of this post, comment 🛸 (UFO) cause I love how Rep Lee made her time about what really matters, the importance of whistleblowers.
And if you watched or read any of these stories comment 🪧(a picket sign) cause union members should be able to fight for a better contract AND put food on the table at the same time.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
