Daily Dems Doing the Work, Making Noise and Fighting Back Day 167
So, who do I not talk about enough?
I seem to find myself posting about the same Dem electeds, thanks to IG deciding that if I look at an account more than others I want to see more of it. So, are there any House or Senate Dems that you really appreciate that I post not at all?
Dems aren’t talking about the corruption anymore. Do they just not care?
Repping the Rep: Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12)
did just a few days ago. She spoke at length and in detail about the immigration gold cards, which are so beyond gross.
She ended it with:
America once known to welcome your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free is being marketed into an auction for the ultra wealthy and as with all of Trump’s personal money-making schemes the American taxpayer likely won’t see a dime of this revenue.
Yeah, that sounds about right.
And you’re right, they’re not talking about it as much because they’re spreading the unified message of “Republicans own the shutdown, if they cared about your healthcare we wouldn’t be here.” You wanted a unified message, right?

Why aren’t Dems focusing on the other ways people are affected by the Republican Shutdown? It’s not all about healthcare.
Rep Emilia Sykes (OH-13)
Did a bit of a Q&A where a constituent asked her how the Shutdown will affect first responders. It turns out, the answer is, they won’t get all their funding. They’re not federal workers but some of their funding is through federal grants. I did not know this, did you?
She said:
So, great question, because I literally just left a breakfast for first responders in Canton this morning, and I heard directly from them that they are experiencing some issues drawing down funds from grants that they are going to receive. So, we are working with them because on the other end of the spectrum, the DOJ or FEMA, their employees are furloughed, so they can’t get the money, but it’s there for them. So, until someone can come back to work and the shutdown is over, they won’t be able to get that grant funding. However, they are still responding to calls.
So even though they don’t work in the federal government, in many ways, they’re working for free.

Why are Dems not standing with furloughed workers?
Rep Ami Bera (CA-06)
Didn’t post about it himself, but he was right there along with TSA this weekend. He’s sounding the alarm on the affects of the shutdown and why Republicans being unwilling to negotiate on healthcare is absolutely his red line.
He told The Sacramento Bee:
These TSA workers, air traffic controllers, others are coming to work every day to keep us safe to make sure we get point A to point B, but they’re not getting paid. What we have to do is get back to Washington DC. I’ll fly back on Monday, try to find some Republicans to get the government open again so we could actually make sure these folks get their paychecks. There’s a shutdown because Donald Trump wants a shutdown. As soon as he says to Mike Johnson, the Speaker of the House, open the government up again, they’ll open the government up again. What we’re fighting for is people are gonna see doubling of their healthcare premiums.
I really appreciate how he didn’t just talk about the shutdown, but also why Republicans refuse to end it.

Can any of our Dems say something that meets the moment?
Rep Jim Himes (CT-04)
has a flawless example, I think. If you know me at all, you know my happy place is when people, other than me, give calls to action, and it makes my happy place even happier when it’s an elected official, and that’s exactly what Rep Himes did at Saturday’s No King’s Rally:
Lot of college degrees in this crowd. Call your university and say, you do not bend the knee. If CBS decides they’re going to fire somebody for what they said, you cancel your subscriptions. Every single day, there is something that you can do to say, I will not abide, and we will prevail.
He goes on to say:
Courage. That’s what the leaders of the Civil Rights Movement had. That’s what those who objected to Joseph McCarthy had. That’s what brought women the vote in 1920. It is about courage and the commitment of all of you. And remember, stand by each other, stay united, we will prevail.
God, it’s just seriously so good. I could listen to this on repeat, I’m not even kidding. And everyone really needs to listen to him. We have the power. Our money talks, and we’ve seen it time and time again recently. We must continue to have courage to fight back. Hope and courage, that’s what’s going to save Democracy.

So those are some of my favorite fighters today. Lots of good info and sounding of the alarm about all the right things.
