Daily Dems Doing the Work, Making Noise and Fighting Back Day 296
All the work matters, every single version
Today I’m focusing on ways Dems are doing the work. The work doesn’t just mean one thing, it means leveraging power with their voice, their legislation, their letterhead, their presence and so much more.
Repping the Rep: (AZ-07)
has gotten her committee assignments.
Because of her decades on the Tuscon Unified School District Governing Board she is the perfect addition to the Education and Workforce Committee (on a side note, I really wish all those young people running for Congress before getting experience elsewhere, did something like that first.)
And as county supervisor she was a huge champion for the environment, and her dad was ranking member, so it only makes sense that she’d also be assigned to the Natural Resources Committee.
We don’t talk much about committee assignments but this felt like a good excuse to.
Rep Scott Peters (CA-50)
Introduced the “Broadband and Telecommunications RAIL Act“ along with Dem (OH-01) and R John Joyce (PA-13) on Monday. Yesterday, the bill had already passed the Energy and Commerce: Communication and Technology subcommittee.
If passed, the bill would make it so that a broadband provider who wants to lay a wire through a private railroad would not have to jump through red tape and the railroad company couldn’t deny the application for frivolous reasons.
Rep Peters said:
Too often, much-needed broadband projects are held up by unnecessary complications and uncertain processes. Yet in the age of technology, it’s more important than ever for Americans to get connected as quickly as possible. That’s why I’m proud to see our bipartisan Broadband and Telecommunications RAIL Act pass through the Communications and Technology subcommittee, bringing us one step closer to expediting critical infrastructure projects, creating reasonable timelines to ensure project efficiency, and increasing connectivity to meet the national demand.
I decided to talk about this because, I was in a meeting with Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) yesterday, and she said we focus too much on the ways we’re mitigating harm, it’s hard to get people excited about that, we need to put more focus on our outright wins when we have have them.
If this passed, it would be an outright win. And the fact that it made it through the subcommittee that quickly is in and of itself.

Rep Maggie Goodlander (NH-02)
posted a video talking to a constituent who’s healthcare is going from $25,000 a year to $40,000 a year.
I think Rep Goodlander is at her best when she’s talking to constituents. And these are stories we need to keep telling.
Trump can say whatever he wants about not signing an ACA bill, but he just TACOed on Epstein, and we can force him to TACO on this too.
It just takes us making people angrier and louder, and that happens when we make it about numbers like this.

Rep Joe Neguse (CO-02)
was on the floor demanding that Congress pass a congressional stock trading ban NOW.
First I just love Rep Neguse and his power and passion, but I also really like how he lays out a bit of the process of a bill.
This has been going on for four years. Most bills don’t pass the first time they’re introduced, it takes time, and that’s annoying, but it also means the bill can be reworked and become something better overtime.
But he’s right, it’s good enough, it needs to be passed right now.

So those are today’s workers. I hope it gives you a good idea of the different ways Dems are doing the work every single day.
It comes in so many forms, from making noise, like Rep Neguse, to legislation being introduced like Reps Peters and Landsman, to talking to constituents, like Rep Goodlander, and being on the right committees for your expertise like I showed with Rep Grijalva. It all matters.
If you made it to the end of this post, comment 💻(computer) cause everyone needs access to the internet in this day and age.
And if you watched or read any of these stories, comment 💰(a bag of money) cause members of congress shouldn’t be getting one by trading stocks.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
