Daily Dems Doing the Work, Making Noise and Fighting Back Day 244
THIS is why I do this
Some days I just love what I do so much, and today is one of them. All of these stories are really big deals, and I am the only person covering them. If it weren’t for me you wouldn’t know any of this, which is heartbreaking, but I am here, and I am sharing it, and now you don’t have an excuse to say you didn’t know.
Repping the Rep: Valerie Foushee (NC-04)
Had a telephone town hall on Monday. It’s an hour long, so, of course I didn’t listen to the whole thing, but I just kind of jumped around trying to find a question, and I just happened upon a woman asking how she was fighting back against racism. Her answer is just another reminder of how many Reps we have fighting like hell, but we don’t know about it cause they’re not as flashy as some others.
I think it is incumbent upon all of us to make sure that we’re not complicit, and so, we have to call out racism when we see it. We have to call out other forms of discrimination when we see them, and demand that those who represent us continue to fight for that.
I have real fears about how this nation’s Supreme Court will respond to the kinds of cases that make it to that level as it relates to racism. I think this whole anti-woke agenda is a disguise for being able to use racists tropes, to try and make people feel fearful about what they can and cannot do, where they can and cannot go.
We have to make sure that law enforcement, number 1, behaves in a matter that is legal and that is becoming of law enforcement, and then we have to make sure that those policy makers are insuring that the polices we pass are fair and just.
I mean….
I understand why so many Dems talk about law enforcement, local police especially, in a positive light, but many of them stop there. There’s no acknowledgement of why people are scared and angry, and that’s increasingly frustrating. So to see Rep Foushee lay it out so plainly, not try to walk around it, feels really good and safe.
And are other electeds doing the same thing? 100%.
But her voice is just never part of that conversation on social media and it’s abundantly clear it should be.
I hope you enjoyed getting to know Rep Foushee this week, I certainly enjoyed introducing her to you!
You can listen to the full town hall below, but it will start with that question
House Appropriations Committee Dems
Put together a timeline showing how this shutdown has been inevitable based on Republican refusal to let Dems be part of, what is supposed to be, a bipartisan process, since the day Trump was sworn in.
I can’t properly articulate how phenomenal this timeline is.
Here’s just the beginning, you’re gonna have to click on the link to see the rest
Rep Gwen Moore (WI-04)
Is in DC right now. Yes, it’s technically recess, but Rosh Hashanah ended on Wednesday, if this were normal times, and the government was about to shut down, they’d be back now, so she is.
She also had a virtual press conference for local WI news outlets, breaking down exactly why there will be a shutdown, keep in mind she is talking to an audience that read these publications, and many of them need to be convinced Dems are not the ones shutting down the government:
I do think that it would be a shame to see a government shutdown. We were hoping the presdient would take up our offer to visit with our leadership, and to allow Democrats to have some say…Democrats, in both the House and the Senate have put together a package that would permanently extend the premium tax credits and we’re just waiting on them to at least have a meeting about it. They’ve canceled meetings and so we’re questioning if there’s any good faith at all.
You can watch the full press availability below.
Republicans may be taking 10 days off, but Democrats will be at the Capitol on Monday morning bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready to save healthcare and not shut down the government. It’s up to Republicans if that happens or not.

Rep Nellie Pou (NJ-09)
Joined the entire Dem New Jersey Delegation, House and Senate, in a letter to the Republican chairmen of the Oversight, Armed Services, Veteran Affairs and Homeland Security Committees demanding an investigation into why the fuck Rep Mikie Sherrill’s (NJ-11) private information, from her military file was given to an ally of her gubernatorial opponent by the National Archives.
I think most people have heard this story by now, but I don’t think most people knew how the NJ Dems were responding.
Raise your hand if you knew a single one of these stories before this post…
Yeah, I figured it would be that few.
THAT is why I do this.
If you made it to the end of this post, comment 🪑(chair) cause it’s amazing that for a bipartisan process our Dem aren’t given a seat at the table.
And if you watched or read any of these stories, comment 👮♀️(police officer) because it’s so nice to see another Dem holding them accountable for their actions.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!

👮 Valerie Foushee is my rep and I was in that telephone town hall. She’s really been a great rep - thank you for highlighting her!
Rep. Foushee is my representative! I call her each week and tell her we’ve got her back -be bolder, fight like hell for us! She & other Dems need our permission to fight harder. Let them know you’re in their corner in this fight for our democracy and our country. 🇺🇸
