I'm not surprised that the GOP have defaulted back to their "do it in the dead of night and hope nobody notices." Routine. That problem is that they know it's unpopular, and if they go through with it with zero Dem/indie support...they're just done in 2026, and the Democrats will let people know about it. Also this smash-n-grab was to make sure that the hyper rich keep tax breaks that were to expire this year.
