Daily Dems Doing the Work, Making Noise and Fighting Back Day 242
You've never heard these stories
The theme of today’s stories is situations our Dems are fighting against that you probably didn’t even know were happening. I only have four stories today, which is going to become my new normal so I can avoid burning out, but, all four of them, are getting 0 attention, I didn’t even know most of these were things to worry about.
Repping the Rep Valarie Foushee (NC-04)
Sent a letter to Angela Ambrose, Vice President of Corporate Government Operations at Oshkosh Defense, because, apparently Oshkosh defense is responsible for the new USPS vehicles that were never rolled out, and she wants to know why.
I mean, she knows why, of course she does, but, there is a whole lot of power in forcing anyone who put it on paper.
And there are so many things thrown at us every day, it’s really easy to lose track of a story like this, which doesn’t affect the vast majority of us at all. But for the people who do have to deal with these conditions, they could be life threatening:
My office has received troubling reports from carriers regarding vehicles catching fire, engines stalling, and ventilation systems failing, leaving workers exposed to dangerously high interior temperatures.
She goes on to break down exactly what was promised:
Under the terms of the agreement designed to address these concerns, the USPS was slated to purchase 60,000 delivery vehicles, with at least 45,000 of those electric. The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 allocated $3 billion in federal funding to support fleet revitalization and related infrastructure. According to initial announcements, production and deployment of the vehicles was expected to begin in 2023, with vehicle deliveries occurring on a rolling basis through 2026.
You know how we make sure she gets a response? Giving this story some amplification. This is one of those situations that we could get movement if Trump saw it was getting attention and didn’t want people talking about it.

Ways and Means and Energy and Commerce Committees Dems
Have been putting out a daily countdown till the potential shut down. It’s the same video every day, except the initial graphic changes as the countdown progresses. I think this is great, because it has that many chances to go viral. It’s mostly about what will happen if healthcare costs skyrocket.
I was in a briefing with Sen Elizabeth Warren and her team this afternoon and Sen Warren has been saying “We have a chance right now to reverse Republicans’ health care cuts and we have to take it.” I know it’s confusing after March and Schumer caving, but let me be clear, we DO NOT want a shut down. Nothing good comes from a shut down. We want Republicans to come back to the table so that Medicaid and the ACA premium tax credits can be protected. And that’s not going to happen if we don’t message on it.
That’s not going to happen if we don’t start making noise RIGHT NOW. We have until Tuesday at 11:59pm to get republicans back to the table and get a deal done. Watch this video and really let it sink in what’s at stake.

Rep Josh Harder (CA-09)
Is raising the alarm over a comment Social Security Secretary Secretary, Frank Bisignano told FOX business, “everything is being considered,” in terms of retirement and social security.
He walked the comment back on Twitter, but the damage was already done. As we know, when the administration walks something back, it’s not because they weren’t telling the truth the first time, it’s because they want to trick us into thinking they just misspoke, and aren’t actually doing the awful thing.
Well, Rep Harder isn’t falling for it. He said:
The new social security head just announced he’s considering raising the retirement age. That means working longer before you can collect the benefits you’ve already paid into, and for seniors who have already retired, your retirement benefits could see huge cuts.
This is messaging we need to see more of. The only way to get the Admin not to do something is to make it very clear that we won’t shut up about it if they do.

Rep Julie Johnson (TX-32)
Had to wait almost 24 hour to offer any amendments in the House Foreign Affairs State Department Re-authorization markup. The funding bill for the State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs would basically solidify a complete withdrawal from the World Health Organization:
Now, with this bill, the majority’s going one step further, they are trying to prevent the United States government from even cooperating with the World Health Organization on international pandemic preparedness and prevention.
I’m so glad Rep Johnson brought this up, cause I had forgotten about that., and I had no idea that Republicans were trying to take it a step further.
You can watch more of the exchange during the final part of the markup below.

So those are just a handful of today’s fighters. I hope you don’t mind this shorter version, I really think it will make it possible for me to continue posting every day (except Saturday) but not get burned out.
If you made it to the end of this post, comment 📢 (bullhorn) cause I can’t be the only one amplifying these stories if they’re gonna get out there.
And if you watched or read any of these stories, comment 📪 (an empty mail box) cause it’s just to dangerous to be a letter carrier with what they have to deal with.
Our voices are our superpowers, but only when we use them!

Thanks for posting these Democratic efforts daily. Most never see the light of day in any other media space.
