Daily Dems Doing the Work, Making Noise and Fighting Back Day 258
Being chronically ill sucks.
So I’m dealing with some health issues, that has made sitting up to make videos challenging. So if you normally just watch my videos, you’ll have to read the posts today. Hopefully I’ll be able to record on Sunday, but, we’ll see, I guess.
Repping the Rep: Don Davis (NC-01)
Held a press conference all about the Shutdown and healthcare. It was a way to answer his constituent’s questions publicly.
I really liked how he talked about healthcare:
Many hard working families in Eastern North Carolina are reaching out to us. These are American citizens that are reaching out to us, out of concern about their healthcare. We see right here, these letters that have gone out, information that has been transmitted by healthcare providers. And you can see what it says right here “how it may affect you. Some people may still get financial help, but not as much, others may no longer qualify for help at all, many, many, may see their monthly cost go up when they renew their plan in 2026.”
You can’t see it in this video, but he has a poster of the letter up next to him. I don’t know what I was expecting, but it certainly wasn’t that much clarity. I wonder if all the letters will be like this.
You can watch the full press conference below!
I hope you’ve enjoyed learning about Don Davis this week!

Sen Patty Murray (WA)
Has joined TikTok! As she says:
You know people once called me just a mom in tennis shoes. I showed people that actually a mom in tennis shoes can make a difference here in the US senate. I’m on Tiktok now because I want the ability to talk to all of you about what’s going on here in congress and what we are fighting for.
Members still can’t use TikTok on their government devices, and even with the new deal, that probably won’t change anytime soon, but more and more Dems are realizing the importance of being everywhere and accessible to everyone, and I love that a lot.
Rep Eric Sorensen (IL-17)
Posted a fantastic video calling Republicans out for the shutdown, especially the amount of essential employees working without pay:
Right now, public servants and service members across the country and around the globe are working without pay to keep us safe.
Right now, meteorologists at the National Hurricane Center, they’re tracking two different hurricanes off the coast, and they’re not getting paid.
TSA agents, they’re screening passengers and baggage to keep us safe, and they’re not getting paid. Hospital staff are taking care of our wounded veterans, they’re not getting paid. Our troops are defending our national security, and their families are not getting paid.
It’s not fair, and it’s not right.
So let me do it again. Republican members of Congress, where are you?
I know I just posted him, but I couldn’t not post this, especially because I’m positive most people haven’t seen it.
Reminding people of who is actually working without pay is so so important.
Rep Andrea Salinas (OR-06)
Posted about her comments during the Steering and Policy Committee shadow hearing titled “The Republican Healthcare Crisis”":
I mentioned two stories that I’ve heard from constituents who have written in to talk about how increases of over a thousand dollars to one of my constituents in Dallas is essentially going to hurt her to the point where she’s not going to be able to afford her health care.
When House Democrats are saying they’re still working, they mean it. Republicans are taking a vacation, some House Dems are using the Epstein Shutdown to meet with constituents and hold town halls etc, but many are still in DC, doing the legislative work, without actually being able to legislate.
That includes caucus meetings, shadow hearings, drafting legislation, office meetings, you name it, they’re doing it. Oh and they’re doing it with only half their staff. Interns are not considered “essential workers.”
And you can watch the full hearing below!

So those are some of today’s fighters (actually not today, they were what I was gonna post yesterday. I hope I feel better soon)
If you made it to the end of this post, comment 📝 (a note) because seeing what Republicans are doing to healthcare laid out that clearly is so important to keeping our messaging alive.
And if you watched or read any of these stories comment 🌀 (hurricane) because if there is a hurricane during this shutdown, those remaining NOAA staffers are going to do literally everything they can to keep us safe and not get paid for any of it. (hopefully temporarily but with Trump, who knows)
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
