Daily Dems Doing the Work, Making Noise and Fighting Back Day 163
Spread healthcare stories!
I don’t have a catchy intro, cause it’s always the same. If you don’t follow our Dems you won’t know what they’re doing. If you do follow them, you might learn that, for the most part, they’re doing exactly what you want them to be. It’s really quite simple.
Why are our Dems still in DC? It’s not like they can do anything.
Repping the Rep: Laura Friedman (CA-30)
like many of her Dem colleagues, took a class from a school in her district on a tour of the Capitol, so they didn’t have to cancel their tour. Normally these tours are given by Capitol tour guides, but they have been furloughed, thanks to the Republican Epstein Shutdown.
And one of these students summed up why trips like this are so important quite well:
For me what was inspiring was seeing all the women’s statues in this room because it’s just like it develops so much and it shows there’s like you can do anything if you really try.
If this girl wasn’t politically aware before this tour, it sounds like she’s interested in learning more after, especially about women politicians.
If Rep Friedman hadn’t given the tour, the school would have had to cancel the trip. I’m so glad they didn’t.
Why won’t the Dems show what constituents are saying about healthcare?
Rep Marilyn Strickland (WA-10)
Has been doing a bunch of that. In this video she’s speaking with a constituent who knows the affects of losing healthcare thanks to her former job:
In my previous life, I worked with hard to place individuals that were dependent on Medicaid and needed medical care. And so guess where they went to? The emergency room. And that’s still what’s happening.
Getting rid of affordable healthcare, doesn’t mean people stop needing care, it just means they wait until life or death and go to the emergency room, which for many is prohibitively expensive.
It’s stories like this that will convince people “hey, maybe I should care what the politicians are doing”

Why is no one talking about the statistics in their district? Most people don’t care about how someone affects someone else.
Rep Julie Johnson (TX-32)
Talked all about that in her recent video, and it’s painful:
If you are, let’s say you’re in your 50s or so, and you have a household income of $85,000 a year, lots of people in TX-32, lots of people in Texas kind of fit in that category, and your health insurance premiums would be about $7,000. If this CR is allowed to go through, then that means your health insurance is going to go to $23,000. People can’t afford that. That means health insurance just craters.
That amount is just surreal, And many people are not making $85k a year, so that’s even worse. This is why our Dems are standing firm against this CR. This is why it’s so repulsive that Republicans refuse to come back to the table. That’s more than tripled.
Think about your own healthcare costs. Imagine those tripled. You might not have to imagine it, it might be your reality very soon. That’s what’s at stake. Now, if every single person in the country knew that, well, maybe, just maybe, Republicans would come back to the table.

The letters don’t do anything.
(OR)
shared a win about a letter. Because he opened an investigation into Treasury Department documents concerning Epstein, which began with a letter to IRS Commissioner, Billy Long, this summer, some of Epstein’s victims were able to use his investigation to file a lawsuit against Bank of America today.
Every investigation starts with a letter. In this case, this one started with:
Epstein lacked any professional training or certifications in accounting or tax law, yet was chosen by very wealthy people to execute very complex tax-related financial transactions. Despite this glaring lack of qualifications that might lead anyone to double check Epstein’s work, it appears that that the IRS failed over the course of many years to audit major tax transactions involving Epstein. In fact, an investigation by my Finance Committee staff has confirmed that certain highly complicated tax arrangements between Epstein and one of his billionaire funders have never been audited by the IRS.
The power of the “strongly worded letters” is evident once again. It’s not always about getting a response. Sometimes it’s about making noise and helping get balls rolling outside of congress.
So those are today’s fighters. I hope you learned something.
If you made it to the end of this post, comment 🚑 (ambulance) because the emergency room should be the last resort, not the only.
And if you watched or read any of these stories, comment 🇺🇸 (American Flag) to represent Bank of America, and Sen Wyden’s hard work.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
