Daily Dems Doing the Work, Making Noise and Fighting Back Day 208
Did I use this post as an excuse to get people to vote on Tue? Maaaaybe...
It’s amazing how easy it is to believe that Dems aren’t doing anything. If only it was that easy to know that they are. Alas, that takes work, but so does hope. Hope is an action, and if you don’t work at it, you’d feel hopless. Do you see where I’m going with this?
For Doomerella’s take on these stories, scroll to the end of the post!
Repping the Rep: Luz Rivas (CA-29)
Joined 43 of her colleagues in co-sponsoring Rep Sam Liccardo’s (CA-19) bill, “Safeguarding the Use of the National Guard (SUN) Act.” The idea of the bill follows the quote “sun is the best disinfectant.” It would require Trump to be transparent with tax payers about these national guard deployments. From any sort of proof that they were successful, to proving that there was no real emergency he was keeping them from.
This is the end of Rep Rivas’ week, I hope you enjoyed learning about her!

DNC ( The Blue Print)
Praised Gov Newsom and made fun of Vance today. And I still don’t understand why people think this series is boring.
It’s great to see the DNC going all in on neutralizing the Republican gerrymandering threat. And we need to make the members of the administration as small as possible, plus Vance in Georgia was laughable.
And it’s stunning that Evans Memorial Hospital, which Sen Raphael Warnock just visited, might have to close their ICU and Vance was still saying that TrumpCare is a success.
Rep Mark Takano (CA-39)
Is making sure his constituents in California Assembly Distirct 63 know that there is a special election Tuesday to replace Bill Essayli, one of the most obnoxious Trump appointees.
The Democrat is a man named Chris Shoults. A Dem hasn’t won the district since 2020, but it’s not impossible, especially with our current track record.
If you’re not sure if this is your district, here are the boundaries:
I really appreciate that Rep Takano posted about this. I just wish more people knew this was even his campaign account so more people would see it.
Representative Rob Menendez (NJ-08)
led 22 of his Hispanic Caucus colleagues in a letter to Kristi Noem demanding that ICE rescind their policy requiring advanced notice for oversight visits. Menendez said:
The new restrictions by DHS are a blatant attempt to shield the Trump Administration and private prison contractors from accountability. Our duty under law is clear: we have a right to conduct oversight at ICE detention centers, and any effort to block that right is illegal. As long as ICE continues to target our communities, we will not back down. No matter the obstacles, we will continue conducting oversight and standing up for everyone who calls this country home. We won’t be silenced - not now, not ever.”
This is one of many tactics our Dems are taking to defang ICE. Another is the “No Secret Police Act.”
So no, “a strongly worded letter” is not all their doing.

Rep Becca Balint (VT)
Got a letter from one of Elise Stefanik’s (NY-21) Glens Falls constituents earlier this year. Telling her that he didn’t feel represented by his rep, so could she come down and listen. So that’s exactly what she did. Tonight, she joined Rep Paul Tonko (NY-20) for a Glens Falls town hall.
Another reminder of the power of one.

And finally…
Rep Joe Neguse (CO-02)
gave a fantastic example of show, not tell. Trump said that the Social Security wait times have decreased, so, instead of just saying that’s not true, he showed it. He was on the phone with the Social Security office, waiting to talk to someone for 90 minutes before he ended the video, and no, he wasn’t speaking with anyone then either.
It’s a lot harder to disprove something you see rather than just a claim you hear.

So I hope this was a helpful reminder that our Dems are, in fact, doing the work.
If you made it to the end of this post, comment 🏥 (hospital), because we need to be keeping track of all the ones that are being affected.
And if you watched or read any of these stories, comment 🗳️ (ballot box), because if you live in CA AD 63 you have an election on Tue, and if you vote, you could be responsible for flipping yet another seat!
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!

I salute you for that
My reaction is visceral
Nice to see some Dems that I haven't heard of yet bringing the fight to MAGA Republicans
