Daily Dems Doing the Work, Making Noise and Fighting Back Day 260
Why blame them when you can praise them?
What is your favorite thing to blame the Dems for not doing? Maybe it will be in this post. If not, keep checking back, you might see it soon.
Why are Dems not telling us what’s happening to hospitals?
Repping the Rep: Laura Friedman (CA-30)
Is doing just that with her visit to CHA Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center. This hospital is called a “safety net” hospital, which means they give care to those without insurance, and these healthcare cuts will make it much more challenging to do this important work.
According to Director Liliana Viamar:
As a safety net hospital, we are going to see our E.D.s flooded with people. And especially with flu season coming, people that are not going to be insured, we’re going to be treating them, and it’s going to be at our expense. And this is going to prove a dire financial strain on all of us.
Doing this kind of work at their own expense will probably mean they will have to turn people away or close certain wings. They can only do so much without the support of Medi-Cal to keep the hospital running at full capacity.

I feel like Dems only go to friendly places, they’re not gonna actually answer questions from someone off the cuff.
Rep Joe Neguse (CO-02)
Definitely does, cause he has an event called “Congress on Your Corner” where he goes around his district and sets up a table and talks to constituents.
This week he was at CU Boulder. And, these students probably aren’t the typical crowd at the town halls, so it gives him a whole new perspective. And he really is making sure all voices are heard.
I don’t see any Dems talking about the cracks in the Republican party…
Rep (CA-49)
Talks about them. And not just from MTG either. It turns out there’s some other House members vocally opposing Johnson’s bs:
And so is California Republican Kevin Kiley, who said, quote, the House needs to return to session. It’s absurd to cancel weeks of legislative business when the government is shut down. End quote. That’s not a Democrat saying it. That’s a Republican telling Speaker Johnson to get back to work.
Dem House members pressuring Johnson isn’t going to do a whole lot, but Dems pressuring Republicans to pressure Johnson might just have some affect. And we should be calling ourselves too. Remember, they retreat when we get too annoying.

Why aren’t House members partnering with Senators for content? That would make a huge impact!
Sen Patty Murray (WA) and Rep Emily Randall (WA-06)
Would beg to differ. They had coffee together to discuss healthcare and the shut down. Rep Randall asked:
I’m confident that you’re in such an important leadership position because I know we’re in good hands, but all my colleagues, our constituents are asking, what’s happening in the Senate?
Turns out, not a whole lot:
It is incredible to me that Republicans aren’t even talking to us much less understanding what the challenge is that’s coming at us, and saying they’re going to keep the government shut down because they don’t even want to talk to us about an issue that every family is going to see in their mailbox here shortly. We have been through these ACA fights before. We know what happens. If people don’t have health care, they still go to the doctor. They still end up at the emergency room. Their kids get sick. Somebody gets hurt.
We don’t normally get a chance to see the House and Senate working together, so I love how many Dem House members are taking this opportunity of being in the capitol but locked out of the floor to do so. Typically House and Senate are on completely opposite sides of the Capitol, but when the House members are there, in large part to make content to make sure the Republican Shutdown continues to be blamed on Republicans, things are a little more loose.
This is a great use of that freedom.

Please let me know if you like this formatting. I think it’s effective, but also, I made it, so I might be biased.
If you made it to the end of this post, comment 🏥 (hospital) because they are all going to be in trouble, but specially these “safety net” ones.
And if you watched or read any of these stories, comment 📓(a notebook) because I love that Rep Neguse having these tables at colleges, it’s so smart.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!
