Daily Dems Doing the Work, Making Noise and Fighting Back Day 271
Even I have some critiques....
Some of these posts might work for you, and some might not, and that’s okay. We have to get better at accepting that not everything is meant for us, and just because we don’t get something out of it, doesn’t mean someone else might not. Dems can’t be everything for everyone at all times.
Is anyone talking about the lawyers anymore?
Repping the Rep: Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12)
just did. She has a series called “Trump Corruption World Tour,” where, every week she makes a video about a different form of Trump’s corruption. And this week is all about the lawyers, both the ones who have stood up, and the ones who have bowed down.
The video ends with a warning:
Legal experts have been warning that these pro bono commitments may violate the Hobbs Act, which prohibits officials from obtaining something of value through threats of government action. But the goal was never to reform the system anyway.
She continues:
When the government gets to decide who can represent whom, the rule of law becomes a political weapon. Our ability to retain counsel and challenge authority, even the authority of the government, is our last line of defense against an administration that is counting on intimidation tactics to discourage us.
Every American should see this for exactly what it is, a direct threat to democracy and the freedom that protects all of us.
I feel like this series showcases that everything Trump does is corruption. From the gold card to how he treats lawyers. And the sooner we can expose that to people who might not be paying attention, the better.

Why don’t the Dems ever give us calls to action?
Rep Lauren Underwood (IL-14)
answered a question from a constituent at a town hall this week with one.
She said:
We have to make the decision to persevere.
So just because you made one call on one day against one bill doesn’t mean then your work is done, right? We have to keep it up.
And it’s heavy. There’s a physicality to it, right? Like, it feels like we’re carrying a weight. At least that’s how it feels for me, carrying this weight.
And so I understand that it’s easier sometimes to just look away. But I’m just really asking that you don’t and that you choose to take action towards a constructive, better future, whatever that means to you.
If this feels like a personal attack, then maybe you’re not doing enough for the amount of time and ability you have. This isn’t an accusation, but if you feel offended maybe think about why.
Me? I love all of this. I’ve been lucky enough to be in multiple meetings and briefings with her, and this is just who she is. She fights for us as one of us instead of some elite, that so many people think all electeds are.
She’s feeling the same weight we are and is begging more people to help carry it.
We keep talking about the 3.5%, but the most important part of that number is that it’s sustained. It’s not just a one time thing. It’s not going to one protest or calling one elected about one bill, it’s constant. It’s doing as much as you possibly can given the time and ability you have.
If everyone one of us did that, I truly believe we wouldn’t be here. Even if Trump was elected, if we all worked together and only did as much as we can with our personal circumstances, we wouldn’t be here.

Why do Dems only give procedure-heavy explanations of the Republican Shutdown?
Sen Ruben Gallego (AZ) and Congresswoman Sarah McBride (DE)
just posted a whole video of “Shutdown for dummies” which goes through step by step with visuals.
But I’ll also say, on one hand, I agree with you. I know, shocking. But there is a lot of procedure and inside baseball when Dems talk about things like this. And that’s because, they love their jobs. Most Dems are policy nerds, so they like to talk about it as much as possible.
The important thing is to have a mix. They absolutely need to post that kind of content, but they need to post videos like this too. Our job is not to call them out when they do the one that doesn’t work for us specifically, cause, as I said at the top, every video is not meant for you.
If you read my posts or watch my videos, this video is probably too simple for you, but what about your friends and family? Do they know the inner workings of the Republican Shutdown?
As Gallego says at the beginning: “We explain what’s actually happening, here, so that way, you can go and spread that message.”
Most people, amazingly, still don’t even know there is a shut down, so it’s our job to get our message to them first, before they hear the Republican lies. Videos like this help make that so much easier.

Dems aren’t talking about Palestine.
Sen. Adam Schiff (CA)
Actually led all Senate Dems (-Fetterman), in a letter to Trump demanding he make Bibi not annex the West Bank.
First off, I’ll give you this, I didn’t see it because Sen Schiff posted it, I saw it because of how historic J Street, one of the biggest progressive Jewish organizations thinks it is.
President Jeremy Ben-Ami said:
This is a tremendous show of unity across the Democratic caucus. Together, Democrats are sending a clear message to extremists in the Israeli government: If they think they can get away with annexation without consequences, it’s time to think again.
So, you’re right, they could have done more here. I shouldn’t have to randomly have J Street come up on my Threads feed to see this. It’s a huge story.
Anyway, here’s a paragraph from the letter. And remember who the audience is, so please don’t get angry about their use or lack there of of certain words:
As longstanding supporters of Israel’s security and Palestinian aspirations for statehood, we are unified in our opposition to unilateral measures by either party that undermine the prospect of lasting peace through negotiations to achieve a two-state solution. That includes any steps by Israel to annex territory or expand settlements that prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state. Such steps have elicited deep concern and opposition from Arab partners and place at risk your past achievements under the Abraham Accords and the possibility of expanding them further. At the same time, terrorism, including the horrific terrorist attack of October 7, 2023, must be uniformly condemned and will not bring the region closer to peace.
I know you probably don’t think this is huge but this really is huge. All Senate Dems condemning the idea of annexation with one voice (-Fetterman) is a massive deal.
I don’t know what kind of power this will have now, but it’s yet another reason we must win back the majority in 2026. With all Senate Dems (-Fetterman) united on this, we might have some leverage.
So those are some of today’s fighters. I hope you enjoyed and I hope it reminded you of the power of amplifying our Dems when they do the work.
If you made it to the end of this post, comment ☎️ (phone) because I hope you’re doing more than just calling once on one issue.
And if you watched or read any of these stories, comment 📑(document) because a letter like this is a huge deal, it’s not about who it’s for, it’s the fact that it was written at all.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!

I absolutely love the (-Fetterman)! 😂 Thank you for your hard work as always!
This was great, Ariella! There are a lot of smart female representatives out there! ☎️ 📑
