Daily Dems Doing the Work, Making Noise and Fighting Back Day 253
The Epstein Shutdown
Just a reminder, just cause Speaker Johnson put the House on, what feels like, an indefinite recess, does not mean our Dems have stopped doing the work. It just means Republicans are responsible for the legislative work being put on hold.
Repping the Rep: Don Davis (NC-01)
Is my rep for this week. He is a vet, a former teacher, a former member of the NC State Senate and this is his sophomore term in Congress, and he just squeaked by in the 2024 election, thanks to a Libertarian getting 9k votes.
Hopefully, by Friday, we will all know a bit more about Rep Davis and get excited about supporting him in 2026, cause we must keep every single seat we possibly can.
He’s messaging on the Republican Shut Down, by sharing quotes from his constituents. He’s calling it Resident Testimonials. So far, he’s posted two, but I’m sure more are coming.
I think it’s a really great reminder that calling and emailing and just showing up in person really does have an impact and our Reps are listening. Now we just need to make sure those with Republicans are contacting their Reps too. It won’t make this kind of difference, but hopefully after enough people contact them they’ll realize if they don’t change, they’ll be out of a job come Jan 6, 2027.

Rep George Latimer (NY-16)
Is giving constituents a new way to find out what he’s doing. If you are in his district, you can sign up for text updates. So if you don’t want to get the news letter, this is another great way to stay up to date with his day to day.
I love this for so many reasons, but especially because I’ve gotten tons of comments asking why Reps aren’t doing this. Well, he now is. And if you want your Rep to do it too, just ask, if enough people call and ask, it just might happen.
Rep Jimmy Gomez (CA-34)
Led canvassing groups in the Boyle Heights and Korea Town areas of L.A. for YES on Prop 50 (or State Measure 50, depending on your county.)
He posted a video, and made it super clear what’s happening:
California is fighting back, what we’re doing is a temporary redistricting, through the next census, and it will give us five more seats that Democrats can win in order to offset the seats that Republicans are stealing across the country. If we don’t win this, we’re gonna be in a hole.
I know, for a fact, especially for people who aren’t paying a whole lot of attention, there is an assumption that this is permanent, so I really love how clear he’s being that it’s not.
Prop 50 is only through the next census, when all districts will be changing anyway. This is just to stop Republicans from rigging the 2026-2028 congressional elections, the only way they can win. So we must stop them here and now.
Rep: Chellie Pingree (ME-01)
Has a really great way to think of this Indefinate recess, “The Epstein Shutdown”
Got the weekend off but now we hear that Johnson, Speaker of the House, has decided to give us the whole week off, we’re scheduled to be back in session, we have things to negotiate, we’re worrying about American’s healthcare. But let me tell you, why I think it is becoming the Epstein shutdown, maybe not the government shutdown
So, you might know that we elected a new member in a special election, Representative Grijalva
And, of course you know where she went next. The discharge petition needs 218, Rep Grijalva would be 218, so they’re trying to get one of the three Republicans to remove their name before Johnson will swear her in.
So we’re in a government Shutdown and an Epstein Shutdown, and Republicans are responsible for both.
I wonder if we spread this new title if it will embarrass Republicans enough that Johnson HAS to swear Rep-elect Grijalva in…worth a shot.
And it really is wild that they care THIS much. I mean, it has to go to the Senate, where it probably won’t pass, and then THE PRESIDENT. So what on earth is Johnson so worried about if it gets voted on in the House?

So those are just some of today’s fighters!
If you made it to the end of this post, comment 📱(a smart phone) because I think what Rep Latimer is doing is brilliant.
And if you watched or read any of these stories, comment 📁(file) cause Dems WILL find a way to get the Epstein files released, so Johnson should really just swear Rep-elect Grijalva now.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!

I’ve been wondering too, why are Republicans so afraid of a House vote to release the Epstein files when there’s no way the measure will pass the Senate and get signed by the president? Could it be that many Republicans who have not signed the discharge petition are as afraid of their voters if they vote against it as they are of $rump if they vote for release?
