Daily Dem Doing the Work, Making Noise and Fighting Back Day 156
Are they really not talking about it?
It’s nice watching people amplifying more and more Dems fighting back, but I still get comments asking why they aren’t talking about this thing or that thing, and I just sight and say “they are, it’s just not being amplified. So here are more examples of exactly that.
Why aren’t Dems talking about specific things that can’t take place because of the shutdown?
Repping the Rep: Don Davis (NC-01)
is doing just that with his letter to Speaker Mike Johnson, and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. In this letter he demands that Republicans restore the National Flood Insurance Program, which is currently lapsed thanks to FEMA’s authority to issue and review policies ending on Sept 30, when the shutdown happened.
Why is this important, you might ask? Well, in the letter, Rep Davis gives an example:
For instance, a home sale in Pasquotank County’s Zone AE flood area cannot close if the lender requires flood coverage and NFIP cannot issue a policy. The buyer’s financing collapses, the seller’s next purchase may fail, and the effects ripple throughout the community.
This is a massive issue and not something I ever considered existed, let alone would be affected by a shut down.
If only Republicans could do something to reopen the government…

I haven’t seen any messaging comparing this shutdown to the 2018 shutdown, that would be pretty effective, right?
Rep Morgan McGarvey (KY-03)
Did just that. He broke down exactly how similar this situation is to 2018:
This morning I was watching the Today Show, while helping the kids get ready for school, and they said this is the first time the government’s shut down since 2018, well that got me thinking, what was going on in 2018? Donald Trump was President, Republicans controlled the Senate, Republicans controlled the House. What’s going on now? Donald Trump was President, Republicans controlled the Senate, Republicans controlled the House.
And it is a great way to explain what’s going on now. It’s harder to blame it on Democrats if it’s a pattern, specifically one that happens under this Republican President.

Why doesn’t the DNC care about the South?
DNC
Just announced a six figure investment in the Mississippi special elections next month. As I’ve been in my countless election guides and results of those elections, we don’t do well, at all, in MS legislative races. We aren’t even overperforming like we are in most of the rest of the country, so this is HUGE. Even the host of the local AM radio show, Mornings With Richard Cross, thinks so.
When Ken Martin said “Organize everywhere so we can win anywhere, he MEANT it:
When you organize everywhere, you can win anywhere — that is my mantra, and that’s why we’re investing six figures into Mississippi in an off-year. At this DNC, we aren’t simply focused on battleground states or one single election cycle. We can chew gum while we walk, and that means building for both the short and long term by creating new opportunities for Democrats to win elections everywhere. As I say, there’s no such thing as a permanent red state. Voters across Mississippi know Republicans are weak and spineless after they cheered on Donald Trump’s agenda that kicks 110,000 Mississippians off their health insurance, pushes rural hospitals and nursing homes to the brink of closure, and raises families’ food and energy prices. With this major investment, the DNC is turbocharging Mississippi Democrats’ organizing efforts to win crucial legislative races this November and continue us on the road to a blue Mississippi.
So, tell me again how they aren’t fighting for the south?
Senate Dems aren’t even trying to do any legislating, even though they’re not on a forced recess like the House.
Sen Tim Kaine (VA) and Sen Martin Heinrich (NM)
Just forced a vote on their legislation to stop Trump’s 9 month long energy emergency, which doesn’t exist:
We don’t have an energy emergency, because when Donald Trump became president, we were producing more energy. Both fossil fuel, but now, especially, renewables than at any time in the history of this country. So why did he declare an emergency? he declared it to give big oil and the fossil fuel industry the ability to bypass environmental regulations.
You will be so not shocked that it failed on a party line, but the more we can get this on record, the easier it will be to convince everyday people who aren’t politically savvy that Republicans don’t care about them at all, which is the goal. For the record, this is why I say we have more power than elected Dems. It truly is all about messaging and convincing. That’s the only way we win.

So, as you can see, if you wonder why Dems aren’t doing this or that, you’re asking the wrong question, the right questions is “WHICH Dems are doing this or that, so I can find them and amplify them.”
If you made it to the end of this post, comment 🌊 (flood) cause I didn’t know that insurance worked like that, let alone that it was connected to the shutdown.
And if you read or watched any of these stories, comment 💡(lightbulb) cause the only energy emergency is Donald Trump.
Our voices are our superpower, but only when we use them!

The Mississippi one made me happy! The deep south deserves investment.
💡flood/ windstorm insurance for coastal areas with hurricanes is mandatory in flood prone areas and so costly! Just like health insurance!
